I was stunned when they charged $541 for this job. That included $90 per hour, per man, for the entire time from when the two techs left their location until they got back again. That's right - I was paying $180 per hour for the entire two hours that they two guys were hunting around for the part - that's the part that I had told them to bring with them in the first place! That price also included $58 for the replacement part - a TFE rollout switch. I happen to know that this part is available for $7.95.
I called Hellas to request that they review the bill, since I did not feel it was fair to be charged for the time these guys spent hunting around for a part that I had told them to bring with. I was told someone would call me back, but no one did. I called again a week later, and spoke to a manager. He was extremely defensive, insisting that Hellas always charges for the time of BOTH techs - even when they are out waiting in line at supply houses. He also insisted that the actual cost of the part is "none of my business" because $58 is their "standard price" for that part. The manager was downright rude, dressing me down over the phone for daring to question their billing practices.
While it's true our heat got turned back on in a prompt manner, and the techs did their job well, I will never use this provider again. Not only do I resent being overbilled, but the supercilious and rude attitude of the owner/manager on the phone is the mark of a company I do not want to deal with.
I have been using them for years. I have a contract with them. They are punctual and trustworthy. They come out and start up the air conditioner for the summer and clean everything. During the fall they come out again to check the heating and clean everything and do basic maintenance. They are pretty reasonably priced. They are also great on emergency calls.
