Candide Valadares has been making Fairfield county a more beautiful place for over thirty years. Born in Portugal and raised in France, Valadares moved to the U.S. in 1985. He launched his business in 1988. Candide Contractor now boasts hundreds of clients, but maintains their commitment to individual service.

Candide's crew cuts our lawn with golf-course precision. It's 2 acres with a lot of edges, a barn, stone walls, fences, porches, a pool and a driveway with Belgian block, plus a hill fronting the property where it has to be cut on an angle for 200 feet. They do not miss one blade of grass, though I don't know how they do it. Lots of meticulous attention with weed whackers occurs. We needed the loose surface around our pool redone from scratch. They did a fabulous job, with a strong foundation so it would never crack or lose being level. That was a couple of years ago and it looks like it was done yesterday. Prices are fair and the work is tops. You can't do better. I have seen water gardens they install, and they are gorgeous, but we do not have one.

Started with a larger project, project overall was ok; price was somewhat high. After, I contracted with Candide to cut grass for the season; at the beginning of the season, a small patch of grass was missed, I pointed it out for next cut and I mowed it myself. Candide asked me to take a photo of the small patch and I sent it to him. A few days later Candide sent an email stating that he was not going to cut the grass any longer because my “expectations” were too high. I tried to contact him after to discuss what his problem was but he no longer answered his phone and I was told by a relative that he had personal problems to deal with and could no longer service the property. I told her that I could understand that sometimes things happen but that it was not good business form to drop customers, making multiple excuses while leaving customers without service. Although Candide is personally likable, I found his service unreliable.

"Being in business now for over 30 years the key to our success has and will always be costumer care and service. No matter how much you will do to a costumer some will never be satisfy. Communication is key to expectation in this case it was never discussed that we were to mow a hill side under power lines divided by a stone wall that belong to the property as part of lawn mowing service. Also like any small business we do expect to be paid upon completion of a project not over 60 days later for such small amount. I have made a trip oversees for family matters were I could not reply to phone calls personally. We do reserve the right not to service a costumer when they have expectation that cannot be met and not paying their bills on time. Our 27 A ratings speak for me self."

Excellent. Work was professional and better than I had hoped for. It was planned as a one day project but as the first day ended Candide wasn't happy with the way it looked. It was supposed to rain the next day or two, so he left his equipment and returned after the area had dried. Spent another half day and the area looks amazing.

Candide was responsive and kept me up to date on when the job was likely to start. When another job ran over and he had to delay it by a day, he let me know, brought more guys and got it done in a day. Very happy with the work performed.

Candide and his staff are amazing. They have the ability to create natural and unique art in and with the environment while preserving nature, yet meeting the needs of their clients and meeting the regulations of the State and Town. They came promptly for the estimate, submitted the estimate within a few days and started the work within a week. The work on the wall was done in a day, and the sidewalk was removed in a few hours. They cleaned the area to our satisfaction.

very professional, very personable, friendly and knowledgeable team. Candide and Elizabeth did a great job with our front and back yards. We were in need of landscaping and many of our bushes and shrubs needed trimming and cleaning up. Their crew cleaned up our front and back yards and planted nice shrubs/flowers around our tree in our front yard, along side our house, along our fence and deck in the back yards (we asked for perennials since they are less maintenance and come back every year). They took some of our existing shrubs/plants and replanted them in other areas and their ideas were great. They also cut down a big branch of a tree that had cut through the metal fence in our back yard and treated a tree in our backyard that had a disease (and so far, the tree looks much better). Overall, the job looks great and we are very happy. The crew did all of this work in less than 1 day. We asked for color and since the job was done in fall, we haven't seen the color yet, but we're looking forward to the spring! We will probably use Candide for spring cleaning so that we can best see the work they did in the fall.

We had seen some of the other work that they had done. They were also recommended by others. We went with them because the quality of their work was excellent. We were very pleased. The price of the material was probably too much but the end product looks really good. It was a little difficult getting an appointment at first, but someone came out and proposed the cheapest possible method of doing things. They finished the work in one single day because they had four people. I left a lot of messages and they would call back, but it was usually two days later.

They are really, really good. I've used them in the past and he was away when I needed some work done this year. They are a little expensive. He does really good work but he charges a little more for the tree work. You pay a little more for the quality of the work. They had the same price for the lawn cutting.

I pay yearly and he is not cheap. He is a very good person. Sometimes, I feel like he gives wrong advice. He has a lot of other people working for him because he does a lot of other stuff. That is where he gets expensive. We had used his fence guy before we knew him and he was a lot more expensive. We always have to remind him. We have been using him since last year.
