"we serviced the members roof for approx 10 years; he has a slate roof original to home; when we started servicing roof we were replacing some of the copper valleys and we did have the client buy some slate. the reason that you want slate is so if there is a big repair you will have slate on hand and not have to order and wait a month of two for it to come in; with a slate roof they can last over 100 years if they are maintianed properly in the later years the majority of the slate repairs were to the cap; or ridge which are differnet sized slates; then the field slates that he purchased most service calls were once a year. and the repair mechanic did not always remember that the owner had slates ; nor did the owner make a point of mentioning it when he called for a repair; we also power washed his slate roof and added copper strips to the ridges; due to his home being totally encased by large trees and a couple years of above normal rainfall the algae on roof has reappeared; for some reason the owner believed that by cleaning his roof and installing copper strips he would be done with cleaning forever; he did not pay us for the last roof servive job we did;"
Guy was not the cheapest contractor but I found him to be the most honest of them all. He told me upfront what was really required to do the job right and what it would cost. He told me when he could start and showed up the morning he promised. The job took about two weeks and he crew couldn't have been better. At the end of each day they made sure the job site was cleaned and neat.
His crew is incredibly professional and worked very hard, working 10 hour days. Their work was excellent and our roof looks great. We replaced the flashing on all areas so much of the siding had to be removed. When they were all finished the siding looked like nothing had been disturbed.
My only regret is that Guy does not do more then roofing since I will not be able to hire him again for another 30 years. If you need a roof in CT this company is the one you should use.
