The price for the service was highly competitive compared to other providers.  The owner Jill Meyer arrived with her sniffer dog promptly at the scheduled time.  Jill was very polite and professional, and the dog was well trained at least as far as remaining under control throughout the process.  I was disappointed that  before the inspection, Jill said she could recommend pest control services if necessary. (The whole point of using an "independent" detection service is to find out, from someone who has no vested interest in providing pest control, whether it is needed).  However, I was pleased that she did not attempt to offer any recommendations after the inspection resulted in a positive finding.
On the down side...  The service contract was highly unprofessional.  I would overlook the fact that it was riddled with grammatical and spelling errors, since the substance is the important thing.  However, the contract had two major problems:  
First, it included a clause that states that "The Company is not responsible for, and does not guarantee against, any present or future damage to the Property or the contents thereof".  It is patently absurd to expect that a homeowner should allow a dog to run rampant through his/her house, and not hold the company responsible for any damage the dog might cause.  Fortunately, Jill agreed to let me strike this clause (after commenting that I was the first person she had worked with who actually read the contract); and it turned out (as mentioned above) that the dog was well enough trained that this was not an issue.  However, I would not have allowed them onto my property if I had to sign off on this clause.  It strikes me as underhanded that they would try to include this clause as insurance (in case the dog gets out of control?).
Second, when Jill arrived, she informed me that all the windows should have been closed for a period prior to the inspection (so that the scents the dog was looking for would not be dissipated).  Unfortunately, the contract, which discusses preparations for the inspection in some detail, makes no mention of this, so I did not know that I should close them.  Nevertheless, the final inspection report was explicit in pointing out that there was "ventilation" in the house during inspection -- which could obviously be used by the company as a defense for inaccurate results.  
Further consideration of the accuracy of the results...  Jill told me that if the dog did signal the presence of bed bugs, they could not provide any assurance that they would be able to find visual confirmation -- she said that that is the job of the exterminator; although she said she would try to check "as a courtesy".  Since the entire purpose of this service is detection from an agent that has no vested interest in finding bugs, and since the only way to determine their presence with certainty is visual confirmation, this policy makes the inherent uncertainty of the process render it useless.  In the one location where the dog did signal the presence of bugs ((supposedly -- I was never informed as to the nature of the signal), my LR couch, Jill did an extremely cursory inspection lifting the cushions and, only at my insistence, turning the couch upside down, but she did not use a flashlight and never got up close enough to the couch to be likely to see something the size of an apple seed hidden in the seams.  (Notably, my own, much more thorough inspection of the couch, including use of a CO2 trap, never turned anything up.)
Since the results of the inspection indicated the presence of bugs in an area where I had no reason to suspect them, and no bugs in an area where I did suspect them, I was also interested in information about how often these inspections proved accurate.  I asked Jill if their company had any data on the frequency of false positives and false negatives, and she said that I should contact NESDCA, the certifying agency, about that.  NESDCA said they are a certifying agency and "don't keep track of those rates".  NESDCA's Certification is based on a single trial, and they keep no records of the accuracy of detection teams that have been certified.  In other words, the certification process is also meaningless.  (It is notable, as I realized later, that NESDCA is "made up of Pest Control Owners/Operators".  In other words, individuals who have a vested interest in certifying detection teams that will be more likely than not to find bugs for them to exterminate.)
