Basement - Remodel
$525
Brian came in at a super reasonable price to install wooden railings on two sets of basement stairs. He came when he said he would, was available when contacted, but did a super job. Also, completed in a half-day. I especially appreciated his concern for me woodust allergy. He cleaned up everything. Needs six stars

EVERY WORD IN THIS REVIEW IS 100% TRUE AND DOCUMENTED. DARREN GIOELLO REFUSED TO HONOR THE WRITTEN CONTRACT PRICE AND REFUSED TO COMPLETE THE CONTRACT SPECIFICATIONS. We hired Darren Gioello of Cutting Edge Carpentry to do a major renovation of a home in Old Lyme, CT. One example of not honoring the written contract price was a request (E-mail) for an addional 25 thousand dollars. There was no change order associated with it and the only reason was "so that I can push this project to the next level". He had collected so much money with the job nowhere near finished that, in our opinion, we had no viable alternative but to agree to pay. We requested an accounting of money spent. His accounting clearly documented the fact that he would not honor the original contract price. Although a certificate of occupancy was obtained for the project, many items in the detailed contract were never completed, but were paid for, including crown, baseboard, insulation in basement ceiling, leveling downstairs half bath and laundry floor (he signed a document that it would be levelled) and outside trim. The railing over the stairs was made from scrap lumber and tied to the wall with a finish nail, which popped out. He wrote that the railing was not in the original scope of work (it was because a getting a certificate of occupancy was part of the contract), but that he would tie it into the wall. He never even did that. We filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection (our Consumer Protection complaint was NOT his first). He responded to both that everything was closed
Response from CUTTING EDGE CARPENTRY LLC
"I’d like to start off by saying this project from the beginning was difficult not because of the scope of work because Steve [Member Name Removed] from old Lyme. The prints that i was giving to bid this project were all wrong they were designed by another builder who was promised this project and gave to Steve for free.Instead of honoring his commitment he found us and used there prints .Everything from all the window sizes ,to the layout of the upstairs and downstairs rooms were all wrong .As well as the fact when we started demo on this 1920,s beach house the walls and floor supporting our second floor addition were rotten.I went to Steve explained all these situations gave him a written change order for the extra work 25k and him and his wife agreed and the project kept moving along.Steve knows what he said here on this forum is a lie know one is just going to give anyone 25k for no reason. This job passed all of our town and state inspections he was giving his c.o like he said and they moved in .Why would he pay us and move into his house if all these so called problems existed .As a business owner i cant make everyone happy in this line of work me and my sub contractors did everything possible short of doing everything for free for Steve ."
