Perfectly well. Ron came very highly recommended by my architect. He did not disappoint. Top rate from first moment to last. Will call him first as needed. For some later smaller jobs he was kind enough to just refer subs. I'm a big fan

First let me say that I have been meaning to sit down and write this for a while. I'm glad I finally am because I couldn't recommend Ron Mayne more highly.
Secondly, I should let you know that I am no stranger to building and renovations. Over the last 15 years I renovated an 1864 house in Weston, built a house in Weston and renovated 5 beach houses in Milford.
I bought an 1835 post and beam barn in Weston (March 2012) that had been converted into a house in 1965. The house had been vacant for 2 years and because I bought it from an estate I had no way of knowing what I was about to find during renovations. Basically everything needed to be done.
I decided to tackle the job in 2 Phases. The first phase would make the house livable so I could move in and the 2nd phase would get the rest completed.
For Phase 1 I contacted local friends and got recommendations. I met with 4 contractors and ended up getting pricing back from 3 of the 4 (the last guy wouldn't even give me a price because he said didn't work that way???) Of the 3 contractors I chose Ron because his quote was detailed, organized (he always had his iPad with him taking notes), submitted before the deadline and the pricing looked reasonable for the scope of work. I also felt very comfortable with him and thought we would work well together. I haven't found that all the male contractors are comfortable working with/for a woman.
Phase I started on schedule, end of May 2012). This ole house proved to be a challenge and full of unexpected surprises. With Ron's help we managed to work our way through, around or over them. Ron was on site every day, his crews worked weekends to manage through our 'surprises' and keep me on track for move in. I should say at this point that Ron's crews were also a delight. They were skilled, professional, friendly and respectful of me and my house.
With such a successful Phase ! I never questioned who I would use for Phase II. I didn't even put it out for bid. Now would come the challenges of living in my house with all the crews there trying to get me a new kitchen, bathrooms, all the details. As I moved from room to room Ron kept the project organized and within budget. He also made sure that I had a temporary kitchen, running water and a working bathroom. (oddly, that doesn't always occur to contractors when your living there) I know it's really complicated for a crew to be working around people during renovation. Phase II was to be completed in days and then....on a clear sunny day in September a 200 year old oak tree just fell on the front of the house.
I was stunned and a bit in shock, Ron and I were both in the front when it fell. On to Phase III. I have to admit that seeing the light at the end of the tunnel get suddenly pushed back caused me to lose the wind in my sails. Ron had his guys there later that night with tarps to cover the holes in the roof. They brought chainsaws so we could clear a path to the house. He helped me manage through the insurance claim ($75,000) and worked me back into the schedule to repair and rebuild. Many months later Phase III is completed...even the punch list of all those tiny little projects is done.
So that's my happy tale. I couldn't have hoped for a better experience. I feel I have become friends with Ron, his wife and his niece. If I ever decide to renovate again I wouldn't hesitate to use Ron but I hope someone talks me out of ever renovating again, ever.
Please feel free to email me if you have any questions. Good luck out there.

On the whole, we were very disappointed with the work. We undertook this project during the boom (2005) and I think Ron was stretched too thin. Although he's clearly capable, the subs and crew he chose for our job were terrible, absolutely terrible.
The problems run the gamut from big to small. For example, virtually every joint on the exterior trim is showing and a number of sections of the trim need to be replaced. While I know this is seven years later, these problems started almost immediately. Likewise, the porches (bluestone and brick) have worn terribly. Sections of grout are pulling up and the brick is permanently stained with white effloresence. Inside, several doors and windows have never worked properly. There are huge gaps in the interior trim. The bathroom occasionally, and mysteriously runs hot water from the cold tap. Half the transformers for the undercounter kitchen lighting have failed. There is a noticable hump in the kitchen floor where the original building meets the new construction.
I could go on, but one story really stands out in my mind. I went out to look at the new railing on our front porch. As I leaned against a section, it completely collapsed. It turns out it was simply toenailed to the exterior wall. Ron did fix this and attached it correctly, but only because I happened to find it.
I am now in the process of hiring someone to build a garage for me. You can be sure it won't be Ron. In fact, I'm going to have the contractor start redoing some of the work Ron did.

Response from Mayne Construction LLC
"With respect to the above review, it is an isolated situation. Ron stands behind all of his work and goes above and beyond client expectations. Ron will not leave a job until he knows that all parties are satisfied. This particular client also called Ron back a year later to do additional work. Please visit Ron’s website at MayneConstructionLLC.com and view the many letters of client satisfaction and referrals."

The crews were on time, meticulous, and often worked in stifling heat. Ron and company were uniformly courteous and helpful. I have hired many contractors over the last 30 years, including another general contractor, and feel Mayne's work and work ethic was superior. My husband and I are very knowledgeable about various aspects of home renovation as we have done a lot of small projects in the past and consult the Internet. We also got bids from five other contractors and felt his bid was the best. I would definitely use them again. Dorothy D.
