On 8/25/2014, a different employee came to our property to measure the rooms. My husband met with this employee and told him that the color had already been selected. My husband showed the sample to the salesman. The salesman wrote "Starlight Bravado" as the color on the work order. It turns out that this is a berber carpet color but not the color that we had selected. Since they had only looked at the one carpet sample, my husband signed the work order stating Starlight Bravado while assuming that was the correct color choice. The salesman did not appear to ever go back to check which stock carpet had been marked while we were in the store. Both colors were brown but different shades.
The day of installation, 9/13/2014, my husband saw a brown berber carpet unrolled and assumed it was the correct color. In retrospect, our sample of the correct color should have been compared to what was brought that day. The color mistake was not noticed until after the carpet cutting was started. The installation crew connected us to the salesman who had done the measurement. He pointed out that my husband had signed the work order which was true. However, my husband had assumed that the color written on the work order was correct since they had only looked at the one sample. The salesman also said that this was the same carpet that the original salesman had marked. This was not true because we had watched the original salesman mark the correct color ourselves.
It is just too bad there was this series of mishaps and misunderstandings that resulted in the wrong color being installed. We didn't catch the error in time and the carpet was cut so we had to live with the mistake. But the handling of the whole color selection was inept and resulted in the wrong carpet. I wrote a letter to the store owner that night to make him aware of the situation while knowing it was really too late to fix the carpet but feeling he should know. He has not replied in the two and a half months since we sent it.
If there had not been this mixup, I would most likely have given Galaxy an A or B since the price was good, the installation was good and if I had gotten the correct color I would have been happy. But I feel I saw a different side to this company which had a hand in the wrong color being installed. I feel they are indifferent, uncaring and not very careful. If you chose to work with them because you like the price, make sure that you double and triple check them and don't take them at their word. They will not go the extra mile for you and you will have to watch out for yourself.
None of us were going to be there when the carpet was installed as we all needed to work and could not get the time off.
We left a phone number where we could be reached.
We received no phone calls so we assumed things went well
When we arrived we saw instantly, as there was no way NOT to notice, that
the black sewer cap was left uncovered....they carpeted around the
cover....that would have been fine except where the sewer cap was
located...it is right in the middle of the walk area and there is no way
to cover it up with a piece of furniture. It is a total eye sore and
takes away from the work already done to make the basement look good.
No matter where you are, you can see the black sewer cap against the light colored
carpet.
My brother in law had made the mistake of paying the company
in full ahead of time. He said that he had worked with them before and
they did a good job. I figured since the company had all the money, they were not
going to bend for us in any way.
When I called to see what could
be done about the situation, the owner's son said that we should have
let them know before his men went in to carpet...I said, 'that is why we
gave you our number...in case there were any questions'....with the amount of work that has
been done we didn't think to say anything about the sewer cap. We had
removed the previous carpet from the basement ourselves and the sewer
cap had been covered for over thirty years...we knew where it was
located and we were simply going to put a small marking on the wall to indicate that..
Well, with all that said, we knew things weren't ideal but we were hoping the company was going to work with us somehow....
We were told:
they were not going to cover the cap...even though they had admitted to me
over the phone that some people DO want the sewer caps covered ..they
weren't sending men back over since it was 'too far' away for them..
We were told we should have been there and we should have let them know ahead of time.
We were offered a piece of remnant material so that we could fix it ourselves...we could come in any time and pick it up...(wow thanks!)
When we went to pick it up, the owner's other son was there. We showed him
pictures of the situation...he said there was no mistake made on their
part...legally sewer caps need to be uncovered unless a waiver is
signed...we were never even offered the opportunity to sign a waiver!!
We would have signed it...he then said that if it was covered, people
walking over that portion of carpet, because of the friction, the carpet
would wear in that spot...we told him for thirty years people had
walked over a covered sewer cap and there had been no problem. He then
told us we would have to come back to get the remnant since no one was
there to cut us a piece....I couldn't believe it!! We had traveled a
half hour to pick up a remnant piece we told would be ours and yet one
was not available!! He knew I was upset so he said for us to wait a
minute...he quickly came back with a remnant piece already rolled and
secured with tape... true we got our remnantt but I think they should have given us a little money to compensate for the fact that we are going to have to pay somone to fix their error...
I told this young man that if we had not
paid in full and had been able to withhold back a portion of the money
that the company probably would have somehow found a way to help us...I
think a good contractor will at least admit there portion of error or
negligence and try and right their mistake...
The hardest thing
in all this was that the company was not willing to admit anything (in
fact, in essence, they were saying the 'error's were ours alone) and
were unwilling to work with us in a satisfactory way...
I have a very bad taste in my mouth...and will find flooring from another place that will treat their customers with respect....
