I recently ran out of propane (which shouldn't have happened as Superior is supposed to periodically check the fuel levels). When I contacted them they offered to provide an emergency tank (10 gallons) the same day and to fill the 2 100 gallon tanks the following day (which they did) but at a cost of $5.35/gallon.
The retail price of propane in CT is up, having peaked at $3.90/gallon in February (I called a number of vendors in the area, who confirmed the latter price).
Bottomline, I would rate Superior's service as good but their pricing (at least for propane) as high. I plan to switch vendors.
"The rate of propane is based on the amount of gallons one uses. Usually House Heat is at the lowest rate because the volume is much higher than if it were used for a fireplace, dryer, cooking or a grill. In this case the homeowner used an average of 200 gallons per year. This is low usage and will be in the higher dollar/gal. than house heat is. The per gallon price for someone who uses 1000 gallons or even 500 gallons for house heat obviously have a lower rate. This is a misled opportunity to switch to another supplier for two reasons...1) I guarantee you that you will get a first year rate or an INTRO rate anywhere you go then after a year you will be in the same spot because of low usage. 2) the industry had a crisis this winter transporting propane product across the USA due to harsh weather conditions. This produced a shortage and high prices across the board. Every propane company had to show increased pricing. Good news is that we have about 4 weeks at most of winter and by the time this customer will need another fill up, it will be summer and the prices of propane will have dropped like a rock. My advise is to stay put. I don't know what you use for heating your home, but perhaps you use heating oil for house heat and want to open up an oil account as well. Then with two accounts you can request your tank rental fee to be waived."
