Dan showed up right on time, and I proceeded to hammer him with a bunch of possibly unrelated symptoms that had been gradually worsening for a long time. He kept track of every issue, didn't discount anything as unimportant, and ultimately resolved everything.
Initlally I was a bit concerned about running up the bill, because the diagnostic portion of the visit was complex. He never rushed. I didn't ask for a quote ahead of time, because it was evolving, and regardless, I needed it done.
I need not have worried. The bill was 50% lower than I expected, and by the time he was finished I was sad to see him go. (He's just a really nice guy.)
The actual work:
1. Acid wash the coil in the boiler, providing instant hot water. I was expecting this, as we have hard water, and it had been quite a few years. No surprises there.
I thought we were done, but he said, no, it may not have fixed all the issues. Let's check. So we did, and...
2. He discovered that the mixing valve was shot, and replaced it, noting that this would also fix my longstanding problem of getting an initial slug of hot water when turning on the cold tap. Two other plumbers had dismissed it as something you just have to live with. "It's the way plumbing works" was the claim. Baloney. Dan was correct -- I've had no problems since.
3. One sink was still experiencing flow issues, and Dan discovered a kinked supply line, fixed it, and ensured it wouldn't happen again.
Along the way, he was willing to discuss other issues, that aren't current problems, and generally explain things, and answer any questions I had.
The service was superb.
