For all sorts of reasons it took several months to get this done and finish where mirror meets ceiling was sloppy even after call-back.
New contractor - who has been doing other projects in the house - has offered to replace mirror with a one piece (which was original goal) for about $1250. I should have done more due diligence before agreeing to the $2500 deal but that was my fault for not getting other bids. Having spent this much I will probably leave it alone for now - except new contractor will have to repair area where mirror meets ceiling.
