"All 4 room large area rugs were done beautifully as were the 6 smaller area rugs plus David did seat cushions both sides in the sun room for a sofa, 2 chairs, 2 ottomans very thoroughly! David was prompt, reasonably priced, dedicated, hard-working, very pleasant and most delightful to have for this job! He is highly recommended!"

Customers say: True professional

"We recently had custom built-in bookshelves designed and installed by CT Yankee Crafts, and we couldn't be happier. From start to finish, the experience was an absolute pleasure. Nick was very communicative throughout the whole process, and he listened to our vision, then translated it onto paper and then into a beautiful masterpiece and a focal point in our new home. The best part is filling them up! Watching our book collection find its new home on these gorgeous, sturdy shelves has been so satisfying. It has completely transformed the room into a cozy sanctuary. Highly recommended for any custom woodwork!"

Upholstering questions, answered by experts

In New Haven, quality upholstering is shown by fabric patterns that match precisely at seams, consistent and tight stitching, and smooth, wrinkle-free surfaces. Check for crisp corners, secure welting or piping, and high-density foam that resists Connecticut’s humidity. For antique furniture, authentic reupholstery techniques and period-appropriate materials are key. The piece should feel sturdy, comfortable, and look cohesive with your home’s style.

Helpful?

Your New Haven home is ideal for upholstering if you have stable indoor temperatures, accessible entryways, and enough space for moving and storing furniture. Solid, well-built pieces—especially those with sentimental or historic value—are excellent candidates for reupholstery. If you appreciate local craftsmanship and plan to remain in your home long-term, investing in furniture restoration can enhance both comfort and property character.

Helpful?

In New Haven, older homes often have narrow staircases, low doorways, or tight hallways that can make moving furniture for reupholstery challenging. Multi-story layouts or basement workshops may require disassembly or special handling. If your furniture originally needed movers or creative maneuvering to enter, measure all access points and discuss these details with your local upholsterer to avoid project delays or complications.

Helpful?

In New Haven, unexpected costs in furniture restoration or reupholstery projects often include frame repairs, additional padding, or spring replacement, especially with vintage pieces. You may also encounter charges for delivery and pickup, extra fabric for pattern alignment, rush service during peak times, and storage fees if your timeline changes. Limited parking or tight access in certain neighborhoods can also impact overall project logistics and costs.

Helpful?

For upholstering in New Haven, knowing your home’s architectural style—such as Colonial, Victorian, or contemporary—helps guide fabric and technique choices. Consider factors like humidity, sunlight exposure, and how frequently the room is used. Accurate measurements of stairways and doorways are crucial for moving furniture. If your property is in a historic district, be mindful of any style guidelines that could influence your project decisions.
