Tom and April are indispensable if you are buying a home. Tom and April have inspected multiple homes for me, and their expertise is as good as it gets. As a first time home buyer, I did not know what to look for in some of the older homes in southeastern Connecticut, but Tom was able to explain everything clearly and concisely. He is a very thorough home inspector, and will methodically go through each room, outside of the house, and the basement to show any signs of wear or issues. If you use Sound Home Inspections, you can be sure that because of Tom's years in the field, and knowledge from flipping houses no stone will be unturned! He is an invaluable resource for any home buyer, and as I said, I have use him multiple times because I know that he will be honest and knowledge about about all aspects of a home inspection.

Tom Morgan showed up on time and did a quick walk through. He then spent 15 minutes running the water in the kitchen sink and noticed the disposal wasn't working. However, he neglected to walk 10 feet over to the 1/2 bathroom and check the water flow. (it runs as a trickle only!) Then he also neglected to notice that the bottom of the sliding glass door to the balcony deck had dry rotted at the bottom to the point that the door had dropped to allow air through the top of it. When I brought up the issue both to his office and to him personally (at least 5 phone calls, 10 text messages, etc) he said he would get back to me and despite my constant reminders --- just blew me off and ignored me. Now between the door and the plumbing issue it will cost me almost $2000 to fix. (Andersen replacement doors quoted me $5K on the door alone)

I called in to get a termite inspection that was required for the sale of my home.  I was able to get the inspection done that day and the paperwork turned in within 24 hours!  Great response time when I was on a time crunch!

Tom provided a thourough inspection of the property, key areas; basement radon testing, electrical safety, structural assesment, chimney inspection, property drainage and signs of basement and crawl space flooding, termite & pest damage, roof and siding assesment.  Tom is very knowledgable and isn't afraid to get dirty in basement and attic crawl spaces.  Discovered boiler chimney didn't have liner, which due to high efficency furnace was eroding the Victorian era brick.  Discovered many electical issues and some termite damage as well, which enabled me to negotiate with the seller for credit at closing.
Tom is knowledgable on who the "right" contratcors for the job at hand are in the SECT area, and so far the contractors he has recommended have worked out well.  Tom also provided suggestions and tips for DIY repairs.
Strongly recommend Tom to inspect your home, particularly if it's an older one.

Home visit was fine but took three months and multiple calls to get him to provide the report.

Tom from Sound Home Inspections is fantastic! He was easy to schedule and right on time. Most importantly, he was very, very thorough and took the time to explain everything in detail. I liked that he not only pointed out problems but also had the knowledge to describe how those problems might be fixed. He seemed to genuinely care that we fully understood every detail of the home and was happy to answer questions that arose well after the fact. We found his pricing to be very fair and straightforward. His report came quickly, with pictures to document each point.
We got the recommendation from an acquaintance but afterward found so many coworkers, friends, and neighbors who also raved about his high quality work. Highly recommended!

The home we purchased was a short sale, so of course we sat on it for 6 months waiting approval, then had 2 weeks to obtain inspections, appraisals, and close. I had interviewed several inspectors, and selected Tom due to the time he took to explain the type of inspections he did. Once hired, he was prompt, very professional, and quite thorough. Frequently home inspectors pay too much attention to cosmetic details and miss large problems, but Tom inspected every aspect of the property. We've been living in the home for 4 months now, and I haven't found any problems that Tom didn't identify on the inspection.

1 day after I contacted to the company, he called back and make an appointment instantly. He recommended further aspects. the price may be higher as we did not originally planned for radon, but after his educational explanation, we decided to do that. The inspection took more than 2 hours, but he was very happy to spend explaining to us and how to fix it. The report was thorough and shared with the seller. Seller agreed to fix it and we are happy. If you like fully informed and eager to learn, he is highly recommended.

Lived out of state. Not there for inspection. Inspector did inspection with the seller/owner. Inspector listed interior panel walls of sunporch as bowed and stated it was cosmetic. Unfortunately, they were bowed from water damage. I had to renovate the entire sunporch at a cost of over $30,000! On the report, the inspector listed interior stairways with handrailings. There were NO stairway railings. I had to install them. All the appliances needed to be replaced: refrigerator froze food in the refrigerated section. Dryer had rust inside. His report lists: Laundry - General Comment. Stove had to be replaced. There was no condition of appliances listed in the report. There was a serious leak under the kitchen sink. For bathroom toilet, the report lists "flushes." The bathroom toilet ran constantly and needed repair.. The windows are drafty. The inspector listed the windows as: "screen, self stored." The screens are separate from the windows -- not self-storing. There was termite damage. He listed the damage as "old." A contractor had to do repairs when damage was found to be significant.
