After calling several shops (and even receiving a visit from one) Eastern arrived, provided a very reasonable estimate, and made plans to template and install. Because of the configuration of my kitchen, a large cabinet had to be removed (including related electrical wiring) as well as all of the plumbing services (sink, faucet, hot water dispenser, disposal). I coordinated these folks and arranged to have my plumber remove the plumbing the same day as the install and return later that day to reinstall his stuff.
Unfortunately, as the workers were bringing in the new stone it fractured at the corner. The entire process had to be restarted, beginning with reinstalling portions of my old counters (which I had to insist upon) in order to have a working kitchen during the additional two weeks it took to reorder the stone, assure a close match, do the finishing, and then remove the existing counter and plumbing and reinstall the new counter. The plumber and cabinet maker then returned to put everything back in order.
The stone is as good a match as seems possible given the wide variation in granites and the final work was quite good, save that I wasn't thrilled with the choice of the new joint location on the new piece (I'm an architect). But my plumber, a very reliable guy with whom I've worked for years, has a flat rate charge of $135 per visit for kitchen sink installs, and this job ended up costing me at additional $270 in plumbing fees (not reimbursed by Eastern) not to mention a lot of additional aggravation (and one dinner party with the partially reinstalled, busted counters in place while we waited for Round 2). I wasn't present for the second install, but my spouse was informed by the installers that I would need to put in another piece of supporting lumber under the spot where the original stone failed, and they told her and quot;your husband will understand what needs to be done.and quot; Of course, it might have been useful to get these instructions after the demo so I could have completed this (or had my cabinet guy do it) before the newest stone was installed.
I think Eastern is very good and I would use them again. It's not easy to find decent stone installers in this part of the country. But I would have appreciated some accommodation for the cost and extra inconvenience that resulted from their installation error.
They also did a terrific job refinishing a marble table top that had been outside for several years and needed some TLC.
Overall, very happy with these guys, just a bit of a hiccup in the middle of the job that was a real pain.
When we selected the granite we were not given any guidance about the types of granite and how they may look when installed. We made our selection and were assured that it was a high quality granite.
The delivery and installation was on a Friday . They didn't come until after 5 pm and it was dark out when they finished . The next morning in the sunlight we could see that the countertop looked water stained . I called and they came back on Monday and repolished the surface. However the water stained look remained .
The owner came to our house reluctantly and said there was nothing he could do. I spoke to the salesperson, the owners daughter, who was reassuring on the phone but then sent me an email saying they had done nothing wrong. They even suggested that I was responsible because I had seen the slab in their lot. They took no responsibility for misguiding us on our purchase and washed their hands of trying to find a solution.
