My husband and I replaced the capacitor on our air conditioner, and were unsure of where one (and only one) of the wires should go. We had watched many, many YouTube videos, and only took off one wire at a time while replacing it on the exact same model of the new capacitor. The one wire was not attached when we took off the cover, and thus were unsure. We attached it to two different terminals, and while the fan would run, we could tell the compressor could not kick on. We knew there was another part that was not getting "juice", but we weren't sure which one. We already pay a monthly fee to Climate Partners, and called them for service. It took three days for them to arrive. The service man did arrive at the time he said he would. I showed him what we had done, and knew there was only one wire we were unsure of for the capacitor. He excused himself to the truck because he said his previous client was a tough job. Came back out of the truck saying it was going to cost me $174 just to check the wiring we did and to run diagnostics. He found the same thing we did, that the compressor wasn't getting "juice". He then went inside and was insistent that the panel for the inside air handler was the problem. I knew that wasn't the case, but he proceeded to pursue this diagnostic assumption. I had gone down to my basement to retrieve a screwdriver, when I heard someone on the other end of his phone speaker tell him he had to go back outside and check every part to see if it was getting "juice". Once he completed that task (which should have been a first check), he came back into my house to tell me he had to replace a part. I made him show me which part, only to find that it was the contactor which I had already assumed was the culprit. When I got the bill, I was charged 1) the original $174 to attach one wire, 2) $225 for a part we found at Home Depot that cost $9.74, and 3) another $125 for "further diagnostics". It was obvious to me that the serviceman was not the sharpest knife in the drawer as he kept telling me it was his wife's birthday (probably told me 5 times). He was either having problems focusing, or my service was "on the job training". In either case, if a novice like me can figure this out, clearly someone trained in this trade should have been able to discern the problem sooner than 3 hours.
The process went down hill when we had the gas company come to do an energy audit. When testing the CO omissions they got a reading of 350 PPM (safe / normal levels are ~50). Since the unit was within the 90 day warranty period I called and left a message on a Saturday for someone to get in touch for Monday morning since it was not an emergency. On Tuesday after not hearing back I called again and spoke to a service coordinator Becky. She took down my information and agreed to call back after speaking to the operations manager later that morning. On Wednesday when I had not received a call back yet I called again and was able to schedule a technician to come out on Friday between 2 and 6 PM. At this time she informed me there would be a $149 diagnostic fee if it was determined that the failure was not covered under warranty, I was unclear how a failure within the 90 days would not be but agreed to get someone out to look at the problem.
The technician arrived at 7:30 PM on Friday (almost 2 hours late) and was unable to get the furnace to cycle for a sufficient length of time. In an effort to do so he adjusted the settings so the furnace would run up to 240 degrees and in the process caused the Aquastat to fail as a result of it likely overheating. When leaving with the heat / hot water not working (but with the potential for it to correct itself after cooling down) he handed me a bill for the diagnostic because the water column on the gas was within the recommended settings which I did not pay.
Today I called at 8AM because the failure did not correct itself. After 3 call back to the dispatcher a technician finally arrived at 3PM to "re-diagnose" the issue. He diagnosed it as the same failure and said he could only install a replacement part if I agreed to pay $444 for a replacement of a part that failed during their diagnostic testing.
The installation was done quickly and professionally, with several tips and maintenance guidelines being pointed out while the installation was ongoing.
The two man crew was able to completely install a 90 gallon solar storage tank and all the required pipes and connections as well as install the solar pump and new circulators on the furnace in addition to cleaning and tuning the furnace in about 3.5 hours.
The work was almost done when the company rep for CT Solar Services asked how the pre-heat cycle was going to work. The Climate Partners guys were unaware of that modification and had to call their office for clarification. The communication error added about 30 to 45 minutes to the work, but they remained in good spirits throughout.
I would be pleased to work with this company again!
I can't believe what an incredible company. You would never expect this level of service from a heating company. From the first time Tom came out, we was more knowledgeable than any other contractor I had met. The guys that came out did a fantastic job and left the area they worked in cleaner than when they started. Our house already feels so much warmer and the system they installed works perfectly! I've had nightmare experiences with other local companies so it was refreshing to work with someone so professional who cared about my house. We will also be purchasing a generator before summer. Thank you so much...will recommend to others.
