Brought dog in for shallow, rapid breathing. After three hours, not being told of ANY tests run, was told that there was nothing wrong with the dog. "It's cold outside and he's nervous." is what they said. 1st - he was not cold nor nervous when at home.... hence the reason for the ER visit 2nd - he was not cold nor nervous when returned home. hence the reason for trip to Central Vet ER in North Haven..... where dog was diagnosed with a partially collapsed lung. ** Pieper!

I think all vets are expensive now. It was wellness exam, rabies, feline leukemia, and complimentary nail trim. I can do one cat, but not the other one at all. This was the other one.

My scottish terrier was recently diagnosed with Lyme disease unexpectedly after finding her listless one morning and having accidents in the house. After a 4-5 day stay at a different vet hospital, I was referred to Pieper Memorial for their internal medicine doctor, Dr. Nelson, as my pup had lyme nephritis. It has a poor prognosis, especially for small dogs, but she was great in taking the time to go over everything with me and was very professional, attentive, and caring at the same time with the amount of issues I had to deal with. As a nurse myself, I'm very picky about my healthcare professionals, not only for myself, but for my pets, too. I enjoyed her expertise and opinion, and overall, the hospital is very clean, welcoming, and the staff very attentive and works well to accommodate your schedule.
I do have some negatives, however, that irk me and prevent me from giving this facility an A score. I just had surgery myself, so have been trying to recover and take care of my dog and one of her medications I just realized was going to run out this weekend. They have always been great about getting prescriptions filled or called into my normal pharmacy, however, this time was different. Not only was I informed on this Saturday afternoon that Dr. Nelson had recently left some time back to move for job/family, whatever the case may be, but I was never notified, not even once, about her vacating. This greatly upsets me as she is a specialist and intimately knew my dogs case and situation and I was never even given a hint that she was leaving so that her care could be transferred to another vet at the hospital or referred to another similar specialist to follow up on my dogs care. Luckily I have all her records to find someone else via my normal primary vet, but I am highly disappointed in this lack of follow up and follow through. Then, while I need the prescription refilled, they notified me that they may not be able to do so as they have done in the past as Dr. Nelson is no longer there as my dog's primary provider and I would have to defer to my primary vet. I firmly told them I understood this, however, my vet is closed after hours on Saturdays and will not open until Monday again when I already have an appointment there and if one of their doctors could at least give a call in for Saturday and Sunday meds until I see my vet on Monday, it would be best since it is high dose steroids and I cannot stop them suddenly for any reason without risking a steroid crisis in my dog. They took my information but then said they would check with the ER vet for the ability to do so, but could not guarantee any assistance. I again firmly explained to them that while it was my fault for not calling sooner during the week, but given my situation, and their failure to notify me of this change in doctors, the least they can do is help to accommodate me this one last time. I still await an answer at this time.
Also, my dog has had cases of sebhorrheic outbreak on her skin, and with her issues now and being on steroids, does not recover from this well and easily gets infected despite special shampoos and meds. I had them assess this and they told me that the see what it is and it is an issue, they did state that they were not the best qualified people to further treat the severity, which I understood. However, instead of at least directing me to a specialists for dermatological issues or someone else better able to handle this, they just told me they didn't know who to even start with and to just go back to my vet, whom had directed me to ask them at the hospital. On these two fronts, I was HIGHLY let down and disappointed. While I would use them again for their 24/7 hospital needs and trust they would do well with my dog, I am definitely more leary and weary on taking their final word on things at this point despite how much I trusted their opinions before.

I'm not sure if A or F is the best. What I will tell you is that I have been going there for eight years and wouldn't go anywhere else. They love your animals and are so compassionate. They never rush you. As far as price, I don't know what other vets charge so I can't judge. All I can say is that they are worth every $.

Brought my dog in for a referral consultation with their orthopedic surgeon. I found the dr.and employees there to be very friendly, compassionate and competent. They evaluated my pet's leg to determine if surgery would be needed, etc. Unfortunately, the price for the surgery was more than I could pay (all at once/no payment plans).

Their service really makes them stand out. The staff is awesome - the girls up front are very friendly. They now have a 24 hour emergency service, which most vets don't have.

They're just topnotch, they have advanced so much their facility for cancer for the pets. It's a really good veterinary clinic, they have a large doctor staff that helps in the needs of the animals, the hours are great, they have a 24-hour emergency room type of thing. They are excellent.

They were professional. If they diagnose something they are very upfront and honest. Nothing is exploratory with them. They are very particular. They go through their work and that is very reassuring. If you go there, the staff gets you right in. They have structure and get you into a routine.

Dr. Hammond the neurologist saved my Jennie's life. His expertise and experience allowed him to make a diagnosis after two years of trial and error and tests at other vets. His treatment of her has been effective this far and the prices are reasonable for a specialist the waiting time for your appointment can be silly long some time but I am happy to have found him

We have been bringing our pets to Pieper-Olson now since 1988. We wouldn't bring them anywhere else. Dr. Regan has been our doctor of choice. Everyone there knows us and knows our pets. Things can get a bit expensive with 5 dogs and 2 cats, but their prices are competitive with other Vets. The new emergency center has been a Godsend.

I have used them in the past, not only for boarding my dogs, but for putting one of them to sleep as well. This company was originally a referral from a friend and I tried it out. Come to find out, they were excellent and I have never had a problem with them. Their facility is very clean.

They do a wonderful job with the animals. I have used them for 25 years now and have gone through several pets with them. I have dogs, cats and we even had a guinea pig once that had to be put to sleep. My dog had to go in once to have surgery for a growth. They even took a lot of time helping us with the decision to have our guinea pig put to sleep. I was surprised to find out they will even come out to your house to put a pet to sleep to make it easier for you and your pet.

I have never had such an uncaring "fast food" experience at a VET. The doctor did not seem to like puppies. We came in for a Puppy Exam. All we got was a sales pitch for pills and I put him on the scale. The Doctor did not examine him at all, barely touched him. She did not listen to his heart, take his temperature, look in his ears, nothing. She came at him with a shot before she even looked at his file. Tried to give him a shot he already had, I brought his records; she never even looked at them. She spent all her time pitching sales(more shots, visits, etc.) and no time with my puppy. The entire visit was 10 minutes. I requested his temperature be taking She said "he is fine, we don't take their temperature. Puppies run Hot". For the level of care, we could have gone to Petco for low cost shots. I would never ever recommend this "Walmart" of animal medicine. I would never trust the health of my beloved pets to this profit machine. There is no love for animals there.

I would say their service is outstanding. We have been taking our dogs there for years because they have always been very kind and caring with our pets. They really know what they are doing and I would highly recommend them.
