Since there was quite a bit of work to be done, four work days were planned - one for installation of the new floor, followed by three days of wood prep and stain application. The crew was very professional, friendly, and efficient, showed up on-time every day (6:15 AM was the agree-to time), and did a great job of cleaning up after themselves. The prep work is quite messy, creating dust that goes everywhere, but the crew did a very good job of keeping it from getting out of hand.
At the end of every day, I was reminded of the importance of giving the stain plenty of time to dry before walking on it. Upon job completion, I received an e-mail explaining the best way to care for wood flooring, which was much appreciated.
The final product is beautiful and I noticed no flaws. I would definitely recommend Patrick Daigle Hardwood Flooring to friends.
"Thank you [Member Name Removed] for the great review. It was a pleasure to work with you."
His two men showed up on time and ready to work. We had moved the furniture. They took precautions to keep dust to a minimum and finished the job in the morning, Mr Daigle stopped by to make sure everything was going ok.
The following day Mr Daigle sent an email to make sure everything looked ok.
measured the area, noted where reducers were needed to cover the gap between tile floors in the kitchen and bath, and gave us
figures for the job either including the bedrooms or not.
He told us the furniture would all have to be removed, and advised us to take everything off the walls because of the dust raised by the sanding process. We did this ourselves, although had it been necessary he would have helped us find a service to do it. We also removed the wrought iron railings; he said in response to our question that the job would be neater if we did.
We stayed at a local hotel during the process, but were at the house to unlock the door in the morning, then lock up when they finished. When I unlocked the door for the second day, Brian pointed out that an additional reducer was needed at the sliding door
to the deck, where a gap was created by the removal of the carpeting. That was the only addition to the original estimate.
Because it was up to us to dispose of the carpeting, we asked that they stack it on the deck outside. They cut it into pieces, rolled and taped it and stacked it as requested until it can be picked up.
Everything was completed just as the estimate outlined, without delays. We were unable to have the bedrooms done at this time
because there was just too much furniture to move, but will do that part of the job as soon as we can.
The hardwood was laid down and I was disappointed with the spaces between the boards and the poor craftsmanship. When I asked for a few spots to be fixed he told me not to worry that we would putty the floor. The grooves were so large this would not have been possible. I got a very bad attitude when I asked to fix the trouble spots and Brian demanded payment. I told him I would pay the first installment, which was a significant portion of the total, as soon as the trouble spots were fixed. He fixed the issues and I gave him the money. I thought everything was OK, but when it came time to complete the work, he never responded to my calls or emails. He left me hanging and was very unprofessional. Luckily I was able to find someone to complete the job, but I'm shocked at how was treated.
I would not recommend Daigle flooring to anyone.
"Patrick Daigle Flooring has been in business for over 40 years, and we are known for our professionalism and expertise. We have over 10,000 satisfied customers. Regarding this particular job, I believe the facts presented by the customer are inaccurate. When installing a new hardwood floor, gaps and nail holes are commonplace. The gaps are necessary for the expansion around the perimeter of the room. Filler is used before sanding and finishing, and this customer was viewing phase 1 of this whole process as a final completed work. After we completed the installation, I called several times to set up a time to review the job to be sure it was to his satisfaction. I did not receive a return call from the customer, but a week later, I received a call from the general contractor saying the customer had a concern. The general contractor also tried to explain to the customer that these issues would be addressed by the process of sanding and finishing, however, I did go and make the adjustments to satisfy the customer. The general contractor explained to the customer that the gaps around the perimeter are needed for expansion and are covered over with the baseboard trim and will not be seen. At this time, it is customary for me to receive a payment for this part (installation) of the job. When the job was started, no deposit or partial payment was asked for. I always make sure my customers are satisfied before I ask for payment. After several obvious delay tactics (many missed appointments at the customers home or non-returned calls), I finally received a payment from this customer. In talking with other contractors on this job, we were all experiencing the same problems. The general contractor finally left this job after so many problems. He already was the second general contractor for this site. He finally left the job after receiving a check that had a stop payment applied two days earlier before receiving it. Patrick Daigle Hardwood Flooring was only contracted for the flooring installation. The sanding had not be awarded yet, therefore we did complete the job to his satisfaction. We were finally paid in full. At Patrick Daigle Hardwood Flooring we take pride in our workmanship and customer satisfaction."
I'm guessing that some professionals in this line of work are less expensive and some are more expensive. For the high-quality work that was done, I have to say the price was more than reasonable. You can't miss with this company. The crews really know what they're doing, and they enjoy the work.
