He gave me 2 options.
Change the damaged motor (one was damaged - the other was working) - that would cost around $230 (or $280 - do not remember). But, the other motor could stop working in a few years.
Get a new central vacuum. He recommended Duo Vac vacuum that would be good for the house (over 5000 square feet). That would cost $769 plus taxes. He was all for this option.
His first visit cost $125 plus taxes. In his first visit I also showed him an outside vent which had to be changed (the vent costs $5 in Home depot) that had come out as I had used a blower to remove any blockage on the central vacuum.
I did some research and stated that I would get and quot;Honeywell 4B-H703 Central Vacuumand quot; and if he could change that. He agreed and stated that it would cost $150 plus tax. He also agreed to change the outside vent.
He came on 11/11/2013 and changed the central vacuum. He did Not change the vent and kept on insisting that it could be a problem as he saw lint and could be for the dryer. I started the dryer and the vent was NOT for the dryer. It was an emergency vent for the central vacuum (that had come out as I had used the blower earlier to try to fix the central vacuum). He just would not spend a few minutes to fix the vent. I had to get another handyman who did that for me and he also verified that this was just an emergency vent.
He also took the old unit away (with one working motor) without even asking for it. I guess he would sell the old unit or make it working again.
I also did not like his attitude - asked me and quot;where I workedand quot;. I spent close to $300 ($125 for first visit and $150 for second visit plus taxes) and I do not think I got a good value.
