Charles Schwarz filed my return electronically without me having the opportunity to revive the return first.
The processing of the return took longer than promised.
When I found the mistakes, the same day as the return was filed, I could not then or later establish contact with Charles Schwarz by phone, email or even in person.
It should be mentioned that the new CPA had the same material to work with that Charles Schwarz had.
The meeting went fine, and Chuck was courteous. He needed a few additional documents from me to complete the return, so we agreed that I would send him the documents via e-mail, so that he could complete our returns.
I sent the requested documents the same day. Three days later (Feb 28), I had not received a reply, so I followed up with another email asking whether he had received the documents and when we could meet again to discuss his fee.
Nearly a month later, I still had heard nothing (no emails no phone calls) in response to my emails, nor any updates regarding the status of our return. On March 24th, I emailed again, requesting a meeting and/or a phone call to discuss the status of the return and whether he had all of the information necessary to complete and submit it.
No response.
In the following weeks, I called at least seven times. Only two of my phone calls were actually answered, and each time, my call was answered by one of his assistants. In one case, the assistant told me that our return was in the and quot;to doand quot; pile and that Chuck would get back to me soon. In the other case, the assistant (a different person) told me Chuck was in a meeting and would get back to me as soon as he was done. The rest of the calls I made when to an answering machine, on which I left multiple messages.
He never called me.
I left message after message on his machine and sent multiple emails the week before taxes were due. I still had NO IDEA whether our returns would be completed at all, let alone on time. We had and quot;hiredand quot; Chuck to give us the peace of mind of having professional assistance and the assurance that our taxes would be done properly and on time. Instead, his complete lack of professionalism and communication left us unnecessarily anxious and stressed and in the end, I had to prepare our tax return myself anyway to be sure it would be submitted on time.
Today is April 14th. Taxes are due tomorrow. I emailed and called Chuck this morning to say that if I did not hear from him before 10am, that I would need to prepare and submit my taxes myself and would not want his services.
At 10:13am his assistant called and apologized and quot;for not calling soonerand quot; and began to tell me about the tax refund I would be getting.
Seriously. In SIX WEEKS, he could not find TWO MINUTES to call or email us and let us know that he had the necessary documents, that our return would be completed, or even to tell us what his fee would be. While I understand this is a busy time of year for accountants and tax professionals, it seems that a very basic professional courtesy would be to return at least ONE of your client's phone calls or emails.
In the end (when I had still heard nothing at 10am this morning) I prepared and submitted our tax return myself, because I had absolutely no way of knowing whether it would be done by Chuck and did not want to have to file for an extension or be penalized for a late return.
I'm extremely disappointed in the complete and utter lack of communication and basic courtesy. I had gone to Chuck because of the great reviews I read here, and instead of finding a professional to assist us with our return and minimize the stress of tax preparation, we found ourselves even more anxious and stressed than if we had simply done the return ourselves in the first place (which we ended up doing anyway)!
I cannot recommend the services of someone who cannot find the basic courtesy to pick up a phone or type a simple email to communicate the most basic (and necessary) information to his client.
I am very pleased with the service provided by Mr Schwartz. He was efficient but not rushed and very thorough in the task at hand. I felt that when we went into his office he was fully focused on my situation with no other distractions. The price was very good, the service was excellent and I would highly recommend Mr. Schwartz to my friends.
I am now able to confirm that those reviews are true
He was professional, friendly, answered all my questions, and did a great job on my tax return
