When I told him how I wanted things done - ie. the color grout - he came back with a different color. When I told him how I wanted the listellos and chair rail tiles done - he did it differently. He did not do the corners of the tile properly, putting in slivers because he did not meaure properly and he did not use bullnose tile where it was needed - all in all the job was amateur. I could have probably done it better.
He did not clean up the mess in my garage - which I ended up doing twice. Plus he left smudge marks on some of my walls which I will end up repainting. There were at least 2 days where no one showed up and I was not told in advance, as he started the job close to 4 weeks late I did not want further delays and did not expect this. When he told me he scheduled his subcontracters to come at times the time/day they showed up was different and he did not tell me.
I have to give him credit for a few things - he was able to gut the original bathroom, he did some crown molding which turned out nice, the paint job he did turned out OK, and the floor tile looks good. The happiest I was, was with the people he hired to do the electrical and plumbing work.
I ended up firing him - luckily I did not pay him the full amount and he did refund me the cost of the tiles. He wanted to make it up to me - he said he'd prepare the wall and bring in a tile guy, which I questioned because he tells me he is so professional so why would he need one. I could not accept his offer to fix what he claimed were and quot;myand quot; issues. I did not want any more aggravation and he never saw anything wrong with what he had done - he kept saying he was a professional, trained by one of the best with over 10 years experience. I am having someone come in to fix the mess he made which will include, moving all the fixtures, taking down all four walls of tile and redoing it all. This is going to be costly and I have to live with this until someone else has time to do the job. I think the pictures I attached speak for themself.
This turned out to be a mess - I found he was not paying attention to what he was doing at all. For me a good part of the experience with him was frustrating - there were nights when I lost sleep. After shopping around more it was evident there were more reasonable prices for a bathroom remodel - in terms of thousands of dollars savings. If this is what you want - it's your choice.
