"I did work for Mrs. Randolph in Nov. '08. She asked me to come back and do further work in '09. So on 5/23/09 we cleaned BOTH of her chimneys including her wood stove and vent pipes, put on OVERSIZED caps (much more expensive than regular small caps but MUCH better for stopping chimney water damage), waterproofed both chimneys with TWO coats of the more expensive type waterproofing (far, far better), put up metal heat shields for the woodstove vent pipe, and did a bunch of repair work for the oil furnace chimney and on the flashing of the wood stove chimney. As we were doing the work, I showed and explained to her what was going on with the chimneys, what was recommended in order to correct and/or prevent further damage, and what the price would be for that part of the labor and materials. At each point, I was given approval to go ahead with the work. The total for all the work and materials was $1401.00 and a total of 22.56 of tax, which brought the grand total to $1423.56. I put much effort into trying to make clear to Mrs. Randolph WHY, though more expensive, it was FAR better to go with oversized caps instead of the normal small chimney caps that everyone installs, and the importance of the more expensive solvent based waterproofing rather than the cheaper water based product. At all points, she agreed with me and evidently from her comments is willing to hire us again! Thank you; Jerry White"
