We used EON decking which at the time was top of the line and which we never had a problem with and contributes to the high cost of the project. The deck was not done and finished off correctly and was left so that it trapped water after rains, He did not purchase the correct materials therefore he used deck railing for the stairs. Since the square rails would fit in to the now angled hole the cut the rails to set on the hole edge were the fell out with temperature changes. He did not obtain a building permit. The stairs he put in were 32" and not up to code, footings were not deep enough, and the cement was not mixed to specs and began breaking up. Post were not square on footings. When I called him back to correct the problem and insisted on a building permit, he did obtain the permit but tore down the stairs and landing leaving me with 4 piers in the middle of my yard and used the 32" stair treads to finish off the edge of the deck. With what little knowledge my husband and I have we could have done a better job. This was a nightmare that started about 4 years ago and was so traumatic that for 3.5 years I would not have anything done to the house because I was so afraid of a similar outcome. He also uses a Terryville address for the company. We wanted a new deck and would have been willing to start from scratch, but Tom suggested resurfacing and we have since realized that the original deck was substandard. Re surfacing on a poor frame and foundation was an inappropriate recommendation to begin with.
Description of Work: Tom was contracted to resurface an existing deck add a stairs and a landing.
