When Empire’s installers came to put in our new carpet, they moved all the furniture out of the rooms (as agreed upon). However, my hallway has hardwood flooring. They left large gauges in my hallway hardwood from moving furniture. First, Empire agreed to have their installer come out and fix it or said I could obtain two quotes from licensed professionals to have the gauges in the hardwood fixed. I thought it would be easier to have the installer come and fix it. The installer came, but refused to fix it saying he did not cause the damage. Since the installer did not fix it, when I spoke to Empire, I said I wanted obtain the two quotes and we could go from there. Instead, Empire refused, claimed they had no knowledge about telling me I could obtain outside quotes, nor would they send a different installer who could fix it hardwood flooring. In short, they caused damages and refused to pay for it to be fixed. I would not recommend this company at all.

Our first use of Empire was nice. They were timely, clean, and did a very nice job with our master bedroom, hall and office conversion from wall-to-wall to hard wood. Two years later we opted to use them again to remove the carpet from the remaining bedrooms from carpet to hardwood. The installers were great BUT the sales guy needs to retire. He stated that 4 bedrooms could be done in a day. With an ample size crew - ok. BUT 3 guys showed up and one left after getting the first two settled. Then later the another left leaving one guy. We were dumbfounded. They arrived at 9 a.m. and left at 11:35 p.m. We fed them lunch, we fed them rib eyes steaks for dinner. They plowed through. The sales guy called asking how it was going around 4 p.m. and I wanted to strangle him. NEVER AGAIN. Empire called to followup and when I tried to call back I got nothing so in essence they got paid and they don't care. Lesson learned - old sales guy lie.

The salesman came on time and showed us the different carpets types with explanation. We made 2 choices and he measured the rooms and came out with a price but refused to give us a written estimate . He wanted us to sign a contract right away and give him a 10 % deposit. When we told him we wanted to compare prices , he turned hostile and very condescending. I guess we'll be checking out Home Depot and Lowe's. The carpets were Mohawk brand and seem to be of good quality but they need to train their salespeople more.

I will update when the installation actually happens, if it does. Today is Sunday, my flooring was suppose to be installed yesterday, so my wife, a friend, and I emptied and cleaned three bedrooms and the downstairs area to prep for the installation. I received a phone call at about 8:20 am the day of the installation saying the warehouse did not send my carpet, the GM taking full blame. I work in a place you need to order product for customers, so I understand this happens so I was not too upset. He offered a discount (that I had to request) of less than 10 percent of my three thousand dollar bill. i took it with the promise of having installers at my house the next day (today, Sunday) by 9 am. It is now 10:30 and I had to make a phone call that went no where, being told I may be able to get another discount but it will take 3-5 business days to find out. This is ridiculous. If there was a local company that installed same day and was open on a Sunday, that company would be at my house instead. i went with a big company who specializes in carpeting to avoid this. I should have went to Home Depot instead.

Originally everything was great, but about two years later the carpet started buckling throughout the house. I have contacted them multiple times but they do not want to honor the warranty. Several of the people I spoke with were downright rude, and the one helpful person has not followed through with anything. Stay away from this company.

I made the appointment online via Empire's website and was able to schedule an appointment for a few evenings later. The salesman, Bob, was prompt and professional. He brought a small sample of the "most popular" carpets in with him, but stated he had more options in the car should we want additional options. He measured all of the rooms quickly and then took the time to discuss all of the pros and cons of each grade of carpet with us. After a conversation on budget, quality, and lifestyle he helped us pick out a carpet that would meet our needs. I noticed in a previous review that someone mentioned feeling like they were being "down sold" to a lower grade of carpet. I can understand how one might get that impression - there did seem to be a bit of "steering" toward the lower grade carpet. For example, we selected a carpet and colors we loved to be given a quote that was significantly higher than anticipated. Then we were provided a quote for a lower grade of carpet that was still high, but not nearly as high. When we said we weren't interested in spending that much at the moment he worked with us to find a price range that would work for us. That was appreciated, but it did feel like far bigger discounts were suddenly provided on the lower grade carpet than on the carpet we initially selected. That being said, the quality and color we ended up with are probably their most popular and there is likely a very high inventory thus allowing for a significantly lower selling price while still making a profit. We wrapped up the appointment at around 7:30 pm.
The next morning at 7:45 am we received a phone call saying installers would be at our house between 1 and 3 pm to install our new carpet. We were a bit surprised as we were told it would likely be an all day installation, but figured they knew what they were doing. We had some errands to run and were out when we received a call at 12:15 pm saying the installers were at our house waiting for us. We ran home and let them in. The installers were nice and seemed to know what they were doing though were clearly contractors. One of the young men didn't speak any English at all so anytime we spoke to him he called the other installer over to address us. This wasn't an issue in general, but did create a bit of an issue later when we requested the larger carpet scraps be left with us and he ended up taking most of them before we could catch him. Both men were very polite and did a great job. They installed 3 rooms and the stairs/foyer area in about three hours. They cleaned everything up after and put all of the furniture back where it belonged.
Overall we are happy with the experience. The carpet looks great and fits our needs and budget right now. I would recommend Empire for those on a budget looking for flooring, anyone who needs work done quickly, or those who want the ease of samples being brought to their home. If you have a larger budget and greater flexibility in terms of timing it would likely be worthwhile to shop around a bit.

We scheduled an in-house estimate for replacing our family room carpet with wood and replacing upstairs carpet. The sales person came in on time but he was not interested in listening to what we wanted. He had very limited choice of wood floors and only two choices of carpets. His behavior was pretty condescending. When we asked him to estimate for carpet replacement in our bedrooms, he said and quot;it will be expensiveand quot;. We had researched before calling him and hence were not as ignorant as he thought us to be. We also had an idea of the price for the service we were asking for. In fact, his estimate was close to our expectation. But when we were asking for other possible options (since he had limited choices) he said if and quot; we can afford a Ford then Mercedes will seem expensiveand quot;. Who talks to customers like that? when we said we need to think this over since we have a few more estimates to check, he said we have to decide immediately . We wanted him to leave the estimate so that we could think it over. He declined and left. What a waste of time!

DO NOT USE EMPIRE CARPET! Please read this all the way to
the end, it's too unbelievable to not read this. First of all, my first
mistake with Empire Carpet was to pay for the installation before any work was
performed. Once the installers came to my house to install the carpet
they insisted I pay for it before ANY work could begin. I
hired Empire carpet to install a faux would floor that was made out of vinyl
(linoleum) and install carpet in another room. I had removed the
carpet from my TV room before Empire came to the house due to I had the room
painted at a cost of $1,000. The contractor installed the flooring on top
of the concrete floor and when they did they installed it over
imperfections and air bubbles under the vinyl throughout. So when you
looked at the floor it looked like they glued the floor over a packed gravel
trail walk. I called to complain and Empire sent out the contractor who
proceeded to hammer down the imperfections and attempt to roll out the bubbles.
Well, this did not work. So I called Empire again to complain and they
sent out a regional manager. This manager offered us a $400.00 discount
for our troubles to which I declined and asked for the flooring to be
re-installed.
Now this is where it gets crazy. I was on vacation and had a good friend
at the house to let the second set of sub-contractors into the house and wait
till they were completed. As soon as the contractors arrived there
attitude was very poor and they were refusing to do the work. After several
phone calls to Empire they finally got in contact with the contractor who
started the work. This sub-contractor used a leveling product to coat the
floor to make the surface smooth, which should have been done in the first
place. Once this product dried the contractor proceeded to sand this
product. Well, they never installed a tarp or had a dust collecting
devise that would prevent this dust from entering the house. When I
returned from vacation I entered the house and immediately noticed the dust.
This dust was EVERYWHERE throughout the entire first floor! It was on the
walls, ceilings, floors , all over the furniture It was so bad it made it
inside my cabinets it was all over the dishware and glassware. The product
they mixed was all over the driveway, on the porch and siding outside... To
give you an example on how bad it was, I have black granite counter tops with a
black cook top; you couldn't tell these were black because of the gray layer of
dust over it. The dust was so fine it managed to coat the ENTIRE first
floor with a fine layer of this dust. I immediately called the salesmen
who lived in our town and asked him to view this first hand. He came right over
and was speechless on what he saw. The following day I called Serv-pro to come
and give us an estimate to clean up this mess, they came right over and gave us
an estimate of $8,500 to clean this mess. It would take them 5 days with 5
people to remove the contamination. Serv-Pro understood the level of
contamination and the health hazard it possesses. The entire house had to be
vacuumed first with special heppa vacuums and the cabinets, contents in
the cabinets, books, choctka had to be cleaned by hand throughout the
entire first floor.
I called Empire immediately after Serv-pro coming to the house to inform them
they created this problem and now they need to pay for fixing it. Well,
they didn't want anything to do with paying the $8,500 to clean my home.
They kept on saying that the contractors who were at my house continually received
the highest marks for installation and Empire Carpet holds their sub
contractors to the highest standards. After talking with several
corporate employees I got to a women would was willing to send out an Empire
hired cleaning service. MY wife and I understood that $8,500 was a large
amount and we told empire all we care is our home is cleaned properly and if
they had an immediate remedy that was more economical we would be willing
to work with Empire. Another BIG mistake!!!!! Empire sent a single women
with a dust mop and a roll of paper towels to clean the house that
pulled up in a BMW and looked like she was dressed to go out to a night club.
When she entered the house my wife showed her the contamination. The cleaning
women was completely overwhelmed, unprepared and wasn't informed by Empire on
the extend of the contamination and left. I called Empire again and they
sent over another cleaning service, this time it was two women. Well, once my
wife showed them the extend of the contamination they too were overwhelmed.
They told my wife Empire never explained to them the extent of the damage and
that they didn't do walls and they had only an hour to clean the house. So they
left. After another call to Empire we settled on having another cleaning
service come to the house, this time they would have a crew and claimed they
could handle this for $2,500. We spoke to the owner and were comfortable
with this service until she started to explain the process on how they intended
to clean the house. Their process was to use water to clean the walls and
they didnt do ceilings. You cannot use water to clean this product
because it's a form or concrete and the water would crystallize the dust and
leave streaks all over the walls. Empire told us for any work to be performed
my wife and I would have to sign a waiver BEFORE any cleaning was
started. And if the cleaning wasn't done to our satisfaction we had no
recourse to come back to Empire and have the work completed. Which we
were not willing to do.
I also obtained the heath safety information for the product the sub contractor
used and in that safety information it clearly states if you breath this
product it will cause respiratory problems.
This entire process was over several days, we had to stay at a friends home
during all of this. My poor cat was covered and we had to lock her in a room in
the attic until the house was cleaned. I finally had enough and asked for a
senior manager. I asked this manager for Empires insurance certificate and the
health safety information multiple times to which he just blew off. It
wasn't until I contacted my attorney and we threatened to sue Empire did they
finally provide the sub-contractors insurance certificate. Empire made it as
difficult and frustrating as possible to get our house clean.
Once I contacted the insurance company and explained to them the situation they
accepted ServPro's estimate to properly clean the home. They agreed to pay for
the cleaning and have the room repainted. The entire ordeal cost $9,300,
to which the insurance company paid and took over a month to finish.
In conclusion, I've read several responses from Empire on Angie's list that
end-users left negative comments about Empire. Let me be clear when I say
Empire did everything in there power to take the cheapest way out of this
serious situation by offering lame solutions and to frustrate us. This
was a SERIOUS health issue and the extent of the contamination that they caused
was incredible and they tried to just shrug it off the cheapest way possible.
My wife and my major concern was to get our house cleaned and back to the
condition it was before Empire came to the house. Period, and they made is a
difficult as possible for that to happen. If you have any sen

Requested an estimated online on Thursday, representative came to home on Saturday, and work was done on Monday. We were anxious to put home on market, so the timing was very important. VERY BAD FROM BEGINNING TO END..... Had to reorder verticall blinds in both bedrooms; WRONG SIZE. Then came back put the blinds in the 2 bedrooms. GUESS WHAT ...... The color in 1 bedroom was WRONG. Now they have to reorder the COLOR for the other bedroom!!!!!! Then the price was WRONG, sorry..... I already had the check for the another amount that was given to me!!! BAD BAD BAD EXPERIENCE, I think next time I will go to either a local private business or HOME DEPOT or LOWE' S. We just started scoping out some home projects - including carpeting / flooring for a few rooms. My wife called up Empire after getting good word of mouth from a friend. Let's just say we won't be trusting that friend ever again. The sales guy - Steve Breitrick - showed up 1.5 hours late. Everything was going fine, helping us see the options for carpeting, wood, and tiles. He gave us a price quote, and we thanked him and said we would think about it. His whole expression and demenour changed, and he asked "What did I do wrong?" We were surprised at the question - and said that we needed time to think things out and examine other suppliers. He immediately started picking up his things and packing up. I asked him if he was going to leave his estimate, and he said definitively, "No." He then went on about how he is a closer and closes 86% of his sales the same day. We said that that's just not our style, and the least he could do is leave the estimate behind. He wrote it on the back of the business card and packed up. He didn't even thank us for our time or say goodbye.Epic fail on many levels.Avoid these guys - something's just not right with these super salesy tactics. I think they're trying to take advantage of people who are less diligent than my wife and I.

The carpet installer was great, but I actually did not like the company itself. I found they were very disjointed. It seemed like there were three separate parts of the company. The sales person did his own thing, customer service was clueless as to what he did, and the installer did their own thing and customer service didn't even know who they were. They were supposed to install both flooring and carpet on the same day and they sent me an e-mail confirming it and then I got a callback in the morning of the installation that the flooring product was not in and they would not be installing it and the customer service person who called me back said everything was a go. They took $50 off for my inconvenience and then I told them that they could install it at a different time, but it had to be a specific time because I was going away and when I called that morning because I had not heard anything, that's when the customer service said we don't know who the installer is yet, they haven't arrived to check in, so they couldn't even call anybody to find out what time they would be there.

They arrived on time and he showed me the carpet color in truck before installation. The guy (Edwin) went over what he was going to do BEFORE he did it which was nice and he had me check it over when finished. He even warned about doors being trimmed now that carpet was in took out the doors for us and put in the closet carpeting even though his sheet didn't say so...but I was sure I went over that will the sales guy ahead of time. They had chipped some paint on the trim during installation but all of which couldn't be really avoided and I was told was going to happen AGAIN ahead of time.
The price could have been a bit cheaper but apparently we got a really good deal for the carpet and free installation. It was about 400 square feet.
The sales guy I dealt with was also very kind and gave us the best deal his boss would allow.
Would use Empire Today again for sure!

The salesman and I had an extensive conversation when he was writing up the order about how much we would love the cordless shades because of the baby and how great they were for people with children. He said they went up from the bottom and down from the top and we talked about changes in window treatments. The order form only contained codes and a final total for all the shades (not individualized). On the day of the installation I walked into the condo to see that the sliding glass doors had one huge horizontal shade with cord and as I checked the other shades, all had cords. Not only that but on the bottom of the shades are 4 in. of string just hanging on both ends of all the shades giving them a very unfinished look. Needless to say I was very upset and immediately called the company. The customer service reps are very patient and responsive, I was told someone would call me back with 2 business days. The following week (#2), I again called and the rep apologized I hadn't heard back yet and said someone would call me the next day. Again the following week (#3), I called again and said I was really getting exasperated that I had not heard back and I was promised that someone would call me back. Week #4, I finally got the direct line and name of a rep, he told me that his supervisor, Venus, was away but he would bring it to her attention when she returned and she would call me back. I was upset by the unresponsiveness of this company and told him I just wanted the shades removed and my money back. I was told because it was custom (??? doesn't custom mean made for you) I could not return them for a refund but perhaps they could convert them to cordless.Week #5, I called the rep and told him I had not heard back from his supervisor. He told me that she was directing the issue to the Sales Manager and they would be calling me.Week #6, I called the rep again and told him I hadn't heard from anyone! He said the Sales Manager was out of town on business and would call me when he returned. I feel I'm really getting the run around and asked him why he hadn't called last week when he was in town or why Venus doesn't call me. Venus of course was not available. An hour after this call, I did have a voicemail from "Fred" saying they can take the shades back and make them cordless but the cost of vertical shades was $1,200 and I would have to pay half. I called back and got his voicemail asking why I still haven't been told what I actually paid for and I thought I had already paid for vertical shades as who would order one big horizontal shade to put over doors?
