The next morning at 7:45 am we received a phone call saying installers would be at our house between 1 and 3 pm to install our new carpet. We were a bit surprised as we were told it would likely be an all day installation, but figured they knew what they were doing. We had some errands to run and were out when we received a call at 12:15 pm saying the installers were at our house waiting for us. We ran home and let them in. The installers were nice and seemed to know what they were doing though were clearly contractors. One of the young men didn't speak any English at all so anytime we spoke to him he called the other installer over to address us. This wasn't an issue in general, but did create a bit of an issue later when we requested the larger carpet scraps be left with us and he ended up taking most of them before we could catch him. Both men were very polite and did a great job. They installed 3 rooms and the stairs/foyer area in about three hours. They cleaned everything up after and put all of the furniture back where it belonged.
Overall we are happy with the experience. The carpet looks great and fits our needs and budget right now. I would recommend Empire for those on a budget looking for flooring, anyone who needs work done quickly, or those who want the ease of samples being brought to their home. If you have a larger budget and greater flexibility in terms of timing it would likely be worthwhile to shop around a bit.

the end, it's too unbelievable to not read this. First of all, my first
mistake with Empire Carpet was to pay for the installation before any work was
performed. Once the installers came to my house to install the carpet
they insisted I pay for it before ANY work could begin. I
hired Empire carpet to install a faux would floor that was made out of vinyl
(linoleum) and install carpet in another room. I had removed the
carpet from my TV room before Empire came to the house due to I had the room
painted at a cost of $1,000. The contractor installed the flooring on top
of the concrete floor and when they did they installed it over
imperfections and air bubbles under the vinyl throughout. So when you
looked at the floor it looked like they glued the floor over a packed gravel
trail walk. I called to complain and Empire sent out the contractor who
proceeded to hammer down the imperfections and attempt to roll out the bubbles.
Well, this did not work. So I called Empire again to complain and they
sent out a regional manager. This manager offered us a $400.00 discount
for our troubles to which I declined and asked for the flooring to be
re-installed.
Now this is where it gets crazy. I was on vacation and had a good friend
at the house to let the second set of sub-contractors into the house and wait
till they were completed. As soon as the contractors arrived there
attitude was very poor and they were refusing to do the work. After several
phone calls to Empire they finally got in contact with the contractor who
started the work. This sub-contractor used a leveling product to coat the
floor to make the surface smooth, which should have been done in the first
place. Once this product dried the contractor proceeded to sand this
product. Well, they never installed a tarp or had a dust collecting
devise that would prevent this dust from entering the house. When I
returned from vacation I entered the house and immediately noticed the dust.
This dust was EVERYWHERE throughout the entire first floor! It was on the
walls, ceilings, floors , all over the furniture It was so bad it made it
inside my cabinets it was all over the dishware and glassware. The product
they mixed was all over the driveway, on the porch and siding outside... To
give you an example on how bad it was, I have black granite counter tops with a
black cook top; you couldn't tell these were black because of the gray layer of
dust over it. The dust was so fine it managed to coat the ENTIRE first
floor with a fine layer of this dust. I immediately called the salesmen
who lived in our town and asked him to view this first hand. He came right over
and was speechless on what he saw. The following day I called Serv-pro to come
and give us an estimate to clean up this mess, they came right over and gave us
an estimate of $8,500 to clean this mess. It would take them 5 days with 5
people to remove the contamination. Serv-Pro understood the level of
contamination and the health hazard it possesses. The entire house had to be
vacuumed first with special heppa vacuums and the cabinets, contents in
the cabinets, books, choctka had to be cleaned by hand throughout the
entire first floor.
I called Empire immediately after Serv-pro coming to the house to inform them
they created this problem and now they need to pay for fixing it. Well,
they didn't want anything to do with paying the $8,500 to clean my home.
They kept on saying that the contractors who were at my house continually received
the highest marks for installation and Empire Carpet holds their sub
contractors to the highest standards. After talking with several
corporate employees I got to a women would was willing to send out an Empire
hired cleaning service. MY wife and I understood that $8,500 was a large
amount and we told empire all we care is our home is cleaned properly and if
they had an immediate remedy that was more economical we would be willing
to work with Empire. Another BIG mistake!!!!! Empire sent a single women
with a dust mop and a roll of paper towels to clean the house that
pulled up in a BMW and looked like she was dressed to go out to a night club.
When she entered the house my wife showed her the contamination. The cleaning
women was completely overwhelmed, unprepared and wasn't informed by Empire on
the extend of the contamination and left. I called Empire again and they
sent over another cleaning service, this time it was two women. Well, once my
wife showed them the extend of the contamination they too were overwhelmed.
They told my wife Empire never explained to them the extent of the damage and
that they didn't do walls and they had only an hour to clean the house. So they
left. After another call to Empire we settled on having another cleaning
service come to the house, this time they would have a crew and claimed they
could handle this for $2,500. We spoke to the owner and were comfortable
with this service until she started to explain the process on how they intended
to clean the house. Their process was to use water to clean the walls and
they didnt do ceilings. You cannot use water to clean this product
because it's a form or concrete and the water would crystallize the dust and
leave streaks all over the walls. Empire told us for any work to be performed
my wife and I would have to sign a waiver BEFORE any cleaning was
started. And if the cleaning wasn't done to our satisfaction we had no
recourse to come back to Empire and have the work completed. Which we
were not willing to do.
I also obtained the heath safety information for the product the sub contractor
used and in that safety information it clearly states if you breath this
product it will cause respiratory problems.
This entire process was over several days, we had to stay at a friends home
during all of this. My poor cat was covered and we had to lock her in a room in
the attic until the house was cleaned. I finally had enough and asked for a
senior manager. I asked this manager for Empires insurance certificate and the
health safety information multiple times to which he just blew off. It
wasn't until I contacted my attorney and we threatened to sue Empire did they
finally provide the sub-contractors insurance certificate. Empire made it as
difficult and frustrating as possible to get our house clean.
Once I contacted the insurance company and explained to them the situation they
accepted ServPro's estimate to properly clean the home. They agreed to pay for
the cleaning and have the room repainted. The entire ordeal cost $9,300,
to which the insurance company paid and took over a month to finish.
In conclusion, I've read several responses from Empire on Angie's list that
end-users left negative comments about Empire. Let me be clear when I say
Empire did everything in there power to take the cheapest way out of this
serious situation by offering lame solutions and to frustrate us. This
was a SERIOUS health issue and the extent of the contamination that they caused
was incredible and they tried to just shrug it off the cheapest way possible.
My wife and my major concern was to get our house cleaned and back to the
condition it was before Empire came to the house. Period, and they made is a
difficult as possible for that to happen. If you have any sen

The price could have been a bit cheaper but apparently we got a really good deal for the carpet and free installation. It was about 400 square feet.
The sales guy I dealt with was also very kind and gave us the best deal his boss would allow.
Would use Empire Today again for sure!
