Top Notch/Mike is the best contractor we've ever worked with. Mike and his assistant do meticulous work with great attention to detail. We had fired our previous contractor and Mike came to the rescue - finished our siding project, reinstalled windows that were installed incorrectly, did a small stucco job, did a small roofing job, installed copper flashing and completed the most beautiful interior trim around our windows. In addition, Mike is reliable and provided itemized accounts of precisely what he and his workers accomplished each day. They showed up every day until the job was complete - we could not be any happier with their work. Hoping they will help us remodel our kitchen next. Top Notch is the best.

Michael saved the day at considerable hardship to himself. He came through for me once again, just like I described in my 2013 review. It was raining and a majority of roads were blocked by fallen trees and power lines. He somehow found his way to our place, but this entailed a long journey through New Fairfield (which was hard hit by the storm), much of it on foot. He eventually made his way back to his truck in Danbury then somehow managed to find a zig-zag path to my house. He mounted the roof and made expert temporary repairs, removing debris in order to determine the extent of damage. Rain water had already done some interior damage, but these emergency repairs prevented far more extensive damage from the rain which fell for the next two days. Michael is going to perform the general contracting for the repairs, which includes replacing a smashed rafter, gutters, siding, painting and other damages. He is helping me correct the insurance adjuster's lowball estimate of the cost. I can update this review once the work has been completed. But the reader should know how much I value Michael's expert work and loyalty. Highly recommended!

Mike and his entire crew are craftsmen with an eye for detail. The foreman and workers, tile expert, and plumber all did an excellent job, working tirelessly to get through the project as quickly as possible. I'm extremely happy with the outcome of all of the work - I could tell everyone involved had a sense of ownership in the project. They made sure I was involved in the decision-making process for all the details, which I greatly appreciated. 10/10, will be hiring these guys again for work in the future.

Michael was very professional and responded quickly to our phone call. His workers were very prompt and did a thorough job on our house. We were very pleased with the quality of the work done. The price was very fair in comparison to other quotes we received.

We used Mike and his crew in the past to remove really large ice dams on the east side of our home.  This has been pretty good winter but we got a decent snow storm in January that left a big accumulation on the roof.  It was going to rain and then freeze that night and I called Mike.  He was working on another project when I called him this winter.  The homeowner was nice enough to let his guys come over to our place for a several hours to remove the snow. We really appreciate it.
Mike was very responsive and accommodating, something not often found today.

First class service - Mike and his team worked non stop from 8am - 6pm each day (including Saturday) to get the job done to a very high standard as fast as possible.  Mike knows what he's talking about - he came up with an innovative way to prevent a previously leaking skylight by raising it higher and using a different type of flashing to prevent any future leaks / snow ingress.  Mike is not the cheapest - but if you want the highest workmanship standards with no problems he and his team are the guys to call. He is a first class GC - no problem is too big, I will likely chose him as my GC for a home renovation project we're going to do soon.

Michael, the owner, was very responsive. I saw the company's good reviews in Angie's list, called and left him a vm and he responded right away.  He addressed our concern on water leaking into the house, came and did the work as promised.  He gave updates on their expected timing, which is very considerate and unfortunately not common.  When we asked him to help us understand what was wrong with our roof, he answered all our questions plainly, did not exaggerate the severity of the problem and is not pushy in selling future services. I look forward to working with him in the future.

Unfortunately, Michael doesn't seem able to provide estimates for cost, and the money kept mounting up with no end in sight. I asked him several times for an accounting. Never really got one! When asked what the final price would be, Michael would only say, "I don't know." When he was finally done, we continued to see ice damming up on the roof, the new siding was left unpainted, there are no shingles in places where there should be shingles, and the drainpipe is badly seated and pointing in the wrong direction! Our new contractor is now having to take care of all the issues Michael left us with, and we still have piles of
Michael's "equipment" dotting the sides of our backyard.
In short, it cost a fortune, and was badly done and left unfinished. We're very very disappointed.
Response from Top Notch Carpentry & Remodeling
"Dear Member, It was a pleasure working with you to resolve your roof leak issues. I think you are very nice people who have had other contractors perform work incorrectly at your home in the past and don’t know who you can trust. At Top Notch Carpentry & Remodeling we take great pride in performing proper work practices on all of the projects we are involved with as we have done with your project. As we literally completed the roofing and siding portion of your project making your home water tight on the eve of the first significant snow storm of the winter of 2015, it was determined that a few small details would need to be completed in the spring when weather permitted. Those details included painting the siding we replaced and replacing the temporary downspout we installed to divert water away from the house during the winter as to prevent ice dams. The downspout was originally sending water into the area where you had the leak in 2014. This was the reason we moved it temporarily until the gutter was replaced this spring. That was the plan. We have worked with you in a professional manor and delivered nothing but premium quality redesign and workmanship on your project. I dispute all of your claims and the claims of any other contractor who claims we have performed any work or design improperly. I believe you are being misinformed. The work on the roofs we have done was done correctly and did not leak this past winter as it did the previous winter before the repairs and redesign was done by us. I also dispute your claims that you were not made aware of the costs of the project. A budget for the project was proposed and agreed upon before commencement of the work. During the project it was discovered that areas other than the agreed upon work areas had leaks and damage as well. You were shown these areas and you asked us to fix these issues as well while we were there. The additional repairs were made after a ballpark budget assessment was proposed and agreed upon. All addition work performed was performed on an hourly and materials basis of which you owe a significant balance to date. When you called us with concerns about ice dams over the winter we came out to break ice dams and clear snow from your roof on two separate occasions during the winter of 2015. We were there for you then and are still there for you now. Upon reading this review I called you immediately to discuss the matter and let you know that there is a major misunderstanding here and that I would like to set up a meeting with you and the contractor claiming we have done improper work. When the call was disconnected I called back and got no answer. I left a message and have gotten no reply. I would like to resolve this matter in a cordial manner and move forward. If in fact there is any wrong doing on our part we fully stand behind our work and will make any necessary corrections. Please call me to discuss this. Thank you very much. Sincerely, Michael Pietrzak Top Notch Carpentry & Remodeling"

Top Notch was incredibly responsive and did a thorough job very quickly. I noticed water damage caused by ice dams and called Top Notch at about 4 pm on a Saturday afternoon, expecting to get voice mail. I didn't have any expectation that I would be able to get the problem dealt with that day. Michael, the owner, answered the call personally and we briefly discussed the situation. He and his crew had been removing snow and ice all day, and were just finishing their last job, but he offered to come to remove the snow and ice as soon as they finished the current job, and they were at my house clearing the snow and ice within the hour. The worked diligently on our roof (which is large, with multiple levels). Two hours later, when it was virtually dark, they finished the job and we've had no further water damage, despite a cycle of freezing and thawing in the subsequent days. I didn't shop around, but I thought the hourly rate was very fair (based upon larger sums I know that friends have paid for smaller jobs). I was extremely pleased with how incredibly responsive, hard-working and thorough Michael and his crew were, and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. The company's high rating on Angie's list made this an easy decision.

Michael promptly returned my call, said they could be here the next day, texted me their expected arrival time, they worked solidly &
departed for a friend's home, who hearing they were here called to have them come by her home - also dealing with ice dam & the weight of heavy snow on a deck, etc.
Michael asked if I would please write a review on angle's list, with no request for a certain grade. I wish I could put this review into
every category they do work in?.unfortunately, I do not find a way to do that.

There are some providers that do a good job and some that are very professional.  Michael and his crew were both and more.  Michael called me back within hours of my initial call. This was not because he wasn't busy, but just because that is how his does business.  He got a crew (and himself) out to my house the next day before another snow storm hit.  He texted me that he would be at my house in 40 minutes and arrived exactly at that time.  His crew started immediately and he helped and supervised the entire time.  The cost was a little more than average but the professionalism and the job they did on the house was worth it.  When they were done and ready to leave my car was blocking them in.  They actually removed the snow from my car too when they were cleaning their cars.  Thank you guys.

Michael responded to my call and was fortunately able to fit me in on the same day (I called the day before we were expecting another snowstorm). We agreed on a time window and he texted me about 45 minutes before he arrived to let me know when he would be there (he narrowed the time window down to 30 minutes and came right in the middle of that 30 minute slot). The crew was courteous and professional. They did a very thorough job of removing the snow and quite a bit of ice from my roof.

All went excellent as Michael showed up with his crew and efficiently removed all snow and ice in the gutters.  We were concerned about roof problems and did not want anything to happen so we thought we would be proactive.  Also, Michael was very polite and responded to our initial call within 30 minutes.   We would definitely use him again.

We had a last minute requirement to remove two plaster walls that separated two bedrooms and build a new wall between them. This was very detailed work because the plaster and sheet rock had to line up and match once the rooms were joined.
Mike was able to rearrange his schedule and get his crew on it right away. Not only did they get the work done on time, they did an excellent job and the room turned out great.
Mike is very professional and conscientious and kept us informed every step of the way. He made suggestions for ways to improve the process keeping our goals in mind the entire time.
I recommend Top Notch to anyone looking for excellent carpentry.

My experience from beginning to end can only be described as excellent!  Mike responded back to my call the same day and was at my house the next to give me an estimate on the work to be done.  What set Mike apart from the other people who came to give me estimates was his enthusiasm and knowledge.  I really appreciated the time Mike spent walking around the house and explaining to me the processes involved.  Having heard the horror stories our friends had experienced with other home improvement contractors (such as late starts, late completions, quitting in mid-job, coming in late and over-budget, poor quality of final work, etc.), I went into my first home improvement adventure very skeptical.  After one day of work my mind was put to ease.  Work began on time and wrapped up on time every day. Upon doing the initial walk through with Mike he knew I had a 10 month old baby boy and worked around his sleep schedule on the nursery side of the house. The work was done on schedule and definitely exceeded my expectations!  If you came to my house the day after the job completed, you would never know construction had taken place.  The bushes around my house were unharmed and there was not a piece of debris or nail I could find.  I would definitely use Mike again for any future work and recommend him to anyone who wants an excellent job.  Thanks again Mike!

The owner Michael Pietrzak returned my call immediately and got to work the next day. He and his crew worked almost ten hours straight to alleviate what had become a severe ice dam problem. They were extremely thorough and stayed on the job until the problem was completely resolved. We are overdue for a new roof and will be getting an estimate from him.

We discovered a leak in the study on Saturday morning (a mirror fell off the wall, and we saw there was a slow stream of water coming down the wall seam) - and realized immediately it was due to an ice dam on the exterior wall.  We also had HUGE icicles on the back of the house that were clearly going to cause trouble soon. And another snowstorm was on the way.
Checked Angie's List, called Michael at Top Notch. He had crews out already, but offered to come himself within a few hours. He rounded up two employees, and the three of them cleared our roof and eaves over the course of three hours (it's a big roof). Problem solved, for now, though we'll certainly need to replace the drywall and do something about the roof issues come spring. And we'll hire Michael to do it. He's great, and his prices are extremely reasonable.

I had quite a build up of snow on my roof and the surface of it was ice. When I realized another big storm was coming that could dump up to 12"/16" of additional snow I knew the roof needed to be cleared before the storm. Top Notch returned my call very quickly and because my house is small, they were able to fit mine in at the end of the same day. Micheal arrived with 3 other men. They worked in unison and wasted no timed methodically clearing my roof. The pricing was not cheap however it was very fair for the prompt, thorough and courteous service. Now I am sitting in-house with a sense of relief as the new storm dumps more snow :) on my roof. In past years when I needed snow removed I'd be up on the roof clearing it myself and one year I even drove around looking for road side postings for people who'd shovel roofs. I feel a sense of relief now that I've found a good resource and am on their list for snow removal again once this major storm passes.
