Hugh showed up on time, was methodical (like any inspector), and worked his way through the house despite having to change the order because of the owner's request. While the inspection was carried out well overall, I was disappointed that there were moments when I had to prod him (e.g., asking him to take a look in the attics). Also, the radon test could have been done a bit more carefully. He moved the machine a number of times within the first hour. Additionally, I was told later by the real estate agent that after the inspection, the owner discovered that the shower door had been broken (instead of sliding it, he pulled it). Fortunately all it took was a minor repair (on the part of the owner, who repaired it). Despite these problems, the inspection was satisfactory: Hugh identified the problems that need to be addressed and submitted the report in a timely manner. He also responded to questions on site and over the phone. If you're in a pinch, his services are satisfactory.

He was very thorough. He even crawled under the porch to make sure the beams were secure. He offered to come back for free if I need him to look at it again.
He also offered to testify to the work that needed to be done with my insurance company.
He also advised the work to be done but did not recommend a company.

Mr. Mullan was prompt and personable. He went through the house from top to bottom, inside and out. He pointed out and documented items that needed fixing now and in the future. He wrote a report and amended it when we asked him about some details he had mentioned to us during inspection that were omitted from the written report. During the inspection he was patient and answered all our questions. We have not yet noticed any major defects in our home that he did not find on inspection, although we have lived here less than three months.

When looking for a home inspector I was looking for a licensed professional engineer who was also competent in structural inspections. Hugh Mullan is a Connecticut Licensed Professional engineer who did the inspections I listed. He was extremely thorough and the initial inspection lasted 3.5 hours. When he returned to pick up the radon sample, he did some repeat HVAC testing to ensure that his report was accurate. I highly recommend his radon testing. It is roughly a 48 hour test that records the radon concentration every hour. His inspection ensured that we were getting a structurally sound house but we also received $1500 from the sellers at closing to pay for some minor fixes.
