It went fine, except that the first time they showed up they didn't have a tall enough ladder. It seems that the person who came and gave me a quote didn't communicate the need for a tall ladder to the crew that did the work.

My review covers a bit more than just the 2015 spring/summer lawn mowing season.
I have gotten quotes from them for fall leaf clean-up, tree work, and lawn fertilization, and find their prices to be on the high side. With these higher prices, one would expect excellence in the quality of the work as well as the professionalism of the company. I found both to be a bit lacking. My biggest complaint with the lawn mowing service is that the weed whacking (trimming) quality was awful. The kid they had doing it would zip around the yard without care and attention and burn the edge grass, till by mid-season it was dead. As the weeks went on, there was nothing left for him to trim as the grass in all the edge areas was dead. We discussed it to him as well as called the company about it on a couple occasions through the season and finally, by the end of the season, he began to put some care into his work, but it was too late for our grass. We will need to replant all the edge areas this spring.

The crew was always punctual. Such craftsmen!
Bill Lillie was here constantly checking on the work and in touch with us about the progress and details of the work.
Their stonework is guaranteed for life.
The project was very costly, but enhances the property so nicely and it beats having that old deck we had for 30 years that took up the entire backyard.  The patio is giving us a lovely new living room outdoors.
We are thrilled with the result.  It's absolutely beautiful.
We still need to do a lot of planting and landscaping on our own, or we may contract with them to do more. Stay tuned.

Overall I am pleased with the final results. Linda is very knowlegible on what does well in the area. The yard looks good and the runn off trench keeps everything from washing away. The lanscaping is much lower maintenance and deer hardy which is what I requested.
Scheduling was sometimes difficult as they are juggling multiple jobs and the weather. My smaller projects were fit in. Email communication has been fine.
I would use there services again.

35 foot Japanese maple with issues. A large branch from a nearby tree had fallen into the center of the J maple during Sandy the storm., Other ice and events had caused more damage. In addition, the J Maple had been shaded for many years by the tree with the offending large branch.
It is still a nice, open shade tree. growing a bit close to the house, but with the tree(s) to the south removed, it is now getting lots of sun.
Asked Sprigs and Twigs to take a look., got a quick reply and an on-the- spot estimate (which I thought was a bit pricey). I decided to give them a try anyway. Set up a schedule, they called a day early and asked if and quot;nowand quot; was a good time. It was. They took care of the J maple, and gave me some good advice on taking care of smaller trees. An altogether positive experience.

I happened to come across the negative review of Sprigs and Twigs and must say I was astonished. I cannot say enough positive things about them.
We first met them in Connecticut and discussed some landscaping ideas on the basis of what we had seen them do on other properties in the neighborhood. They provided us with a property sketch, complete with plant descriptions, in both a PowerPoint presentation and a large paper map. This included installation of a gravel driveway bordered by railroad ties. We were so impressed that we asked them to provide some ideas for our New York home. Total cost was approx $5000. This was in 2006.
The work they did for us in New York was masterful. They used the same approach; but also educated us on what plants would work better in shade, the pros/cons of perennials vs annuals, etc. We decided to use them for a complete overhaul of the entire property. It turned out exactly as promised and significantly enhanced the value of our home. I recall they used students to do the installation. Total cost was approx $17000. This was in 2008.
We have since returned to Connecticut full time, and would definitely consider engaging them again.

The clean up was pretty good. A bank that they had destroyed by cutting down too much, continued to be a focus and was only barely addressed with a couple cheap plants. Lack of mulch was a major problem but it would have and quot;cost too muchand quot;. There were no annuals planted for color, new plantings were minimized. The bottom line was cost. Cost was huge and not at all in line with service provided. It has since been noted that you can receive twice as much for your money by hiring someone else.
Response from Sprigs & Twigs Inc
"Over the years, (deleted member name) has found it necessary to send in multiple critiques of my company, each time giving us lower scores, even though we haven't worked for her for more than three years. Her critique this time is particularly baffling because the job she describes is completely different than anything we were ever contracted to do, so perhaps she has us confused with another company or she has just made it up. Specifically, 1)We never worked for her in 2011; (the last "tree work" we did for her was 2008 and that was stump grinding), 2) we never did a job for her valued at approximately $3,000, 3) the last time we worked for her was a spring cleanup in 2010, 4) for the clean-up work in 2010, there was a detailed, multi-page contract that specifically listed the work that she approved. We weeded, pruned and removed debris, etc.- cleanup type work. The contract did not call for planting annuals, the contract specifically stated that we were limited to using the 12 bags of mulch she already had purchased elsewhere (she didn't want to spend money on additional mulch). Sprigs & Twigs work speaks for itself, see www.SprigsandTwigs.net. I can be contacted directly at 860-235-0752 if you have and questions. Bill Lillie, CEO, Sprigs & Twigs, Inc"

I called the number that I got from Angie's list and they were able to make an appointment to come and make an estimate that evening. The estimate was much lower than I had expected, so we hired them.
They gave a window of time of about a month in which I would fall into their schedule, and said they would call the day before to verify the work. Yesterday the doorbell rang and it was them. They had finished a different job in my area early, so stopped to do the job then. The four guys that they sent to do the work were VERY professional. They got the job done very quickly and cleanly, cleaning up all leftover debris from the trees and even throwing in removal of an extra stump at the side of our yard at no extra cost.
I will definitely hire this company again for future work that needs doing on the property.

Working with Sprigs and Twigs, especially Linda, is a treat. She has a wealth of plant knowledge and an eye for design. Her first visit to our house was to discuss our wish list, how we use our yard, and to hear about any issues we wanted addressed. Usable space in the backyard was limited due to a large hill, so we knew a retaining wall was needed and we ultimately included a stone patio as well to provide an outdoor dining/entertaining area.
After taking measurements from that first visit, Linda returned with a large architectural drawing of our house and the garden designs. This was accompanied by a video presentation highlighting the various flowers, plants and trees that would be in each garden, so we could see height, colors, etc. Linda was very thorough and explained every detail to us during this two hour meeting. She also incorporates functionality into her designs – several plants attract butterflies to the yard and Linda also included herbs we could use for cooking.
On the day the gardens were installed, several trucks and people were on-site to get the job done. The crew clearly had assigned tasks and everyone got to work immediately. Linda was there as well directing the staff and placing the plants in the gardens. It was very impressive to watch so many people working as a team. The installation took nearly the entire day followed by clean up. Any debris, mulch, dirt, etc was swept up from the patio, porches and driveway. The crew left everything looking even better than before they arrived! No detail was overlooked. We highly recommend Sprigs and Twigs to anyone who wants beautiful gardens designed and installed by a very professional and detail-oriented company.

The tree guys were very professional and clearly knew what they were doing. We specifically looked for a fully insured company, one with tree experience and a licensed arborist on staff. All the equipment and trucks looked well maintained and the three guys got straight to work, despite our offer of coffee and donuts! The tree in the front by the street was especially tricky since it is a busy road. The truck set up was spot on to get the job done while minimally impacting our neighbors or traffic. The job took several hours to complete but the missing trees were the only indication anything happened! All the wood was put through a wood chipper and the yard was completely cleaned up, all debris raked up and the driveway swept up too. We have used Sprigs and Twigs for landscape and stonework services too, and highly recommend the company to anyone who wants quality work done by a professional and knowledgable team.

A tree had been damaged in the blizzard; I had removed one large fallen
branch but the entire tree was compromised. I called for an estimate and
was quickly given what I felt was a very reasonable price to remove the
tree. The work was done within a week from the estimate, including honoring a coupon from the Angie's web site for stump grinding.. Everything was clean and I am very satisfied with Sprigs and Twigs.

There was not enough oversight supervision by the owner. He sent out young people to do the job, but if you're going to have a deck removed you should be out looking at it and not leaving voice messages and having them to do something and the customer having to pay for it. They made a lot of mistakes. They actually caused our basement to flood because when they buried the gutters the owner didn't come back out and check it. It was right before the hurricane a couple of years and my husband just had a knee operation. We have a finished basement where part of it is low grade, but there was a hole in the guttering in the way that they drained it. I asked him where did they place the drain things and he said they'll come back and do it when they do more landscaping. They gave us an outrageous landscaping amount for our yard to do a small part. It was like $7000 and we actually paid for the design and there wasn't a rebate back on it if we used them or anything like that. None of the plans that we asked him we wanted. We're seniors and we did not want a lot of maintenance, but we wanted a lot of evergreens because we have pretty harsh weather up here. They didn't finish off the drains in the hopes of coming back and doing landscaping, so in other words kind of leaving it half finished. They buried one that sunk my walk way. When we bought the house 5 years ago there was a three layered deck which was older. Some of the deck was coming out the back door and then a lower part was where you could tell they had added on to it. They had redone some of the house and redid the opening to the back door of the 1948 ranch. Sprigs and Twigs didn't do any surveillance. They sent some kids over to pull down the deck and they were pulling it out of the foundation. He was supposed to be an engineer and his wife was the landscaper. They subcontracted the patio which they did an okay job, but they never came back and finished that off. They pounded it in, but my husband was in the hospital and I was going back and forth to see him. The guys were nice enough and everything, but they were supposed to come back to finish it off with some sand and stuff like that. They never came back. When the basement flooded I was bailing water out of one of the window wells while the hurricane was going on. They had laid one of the drain pipes for the guttering out to the sidewalk and not only was the water coming out of the gutter it was going right into the flowerbed that went into the window. They also left a hump where they dug it out of and therefore the water was just coming that way. My husband called the owner and he said that he was going to stop the payment on the check unless it is fixed. The owner did not come back out to check what his employees were doing. He came back and replaced one piece of guttering, but that was it and he never came back to finish anything else. We didn't get them off of Angie's List but used them because we were needing people to do lawn care. They did okay as long as they were mowing, but that was it. There was no trimming or edging and we were paying them $60 every couple of weeks just to do that. Our yard is like a quarter acre and they wanted about $25,000 to do our landscaping. We were not wanting a lot of bushes and flowers. We just wanted it graded away from the house because the previous owner had flattened it toward the house and we're on an incline going up. Their idea of doing that was putting an indentation diagonally across the backyard. We had some interesting experiences and have spent a lot of money with them. My husband worked the contracts with these guys. One of them did the stone work and some people did the other stuff. He tried to come out and say something about the foundation which is concrete. The deck was attached to the foundation with a bolt and he told us that it looked like it was there before. I told him that it wasn't opened before and it was covered by the deck which you could tell. I think they got busy and started to get other contracts. Nobody ever came back to check how things were going. Nobody ever came back to see how the customer is being serviced. My husband tried to call them about the sidewalk and nobody ever returned our calls. I thought they were high and you expect a certified licensed and bonded company to be higher than the mom and pop places, but you also expect a higher level of professionalism. When they found out we weren't going to finish paying thousands of dollars to do landscaping everything just stopped. The people that did the stone work did a good job, but Sprigs and Twigs never came back and I'm assuming it was because of the owner. I wouldn't hire them again unless I got an iron clad contract about warranties and stuff.
