Both we and the inspector missed the fact that the drain pan under the previous owners' washing machine had a hole drilled into the middle of it to accommodate a drain pipe sticking up from a large hole in the floor. When we came back on the morning of the closing, we were surprised to find the drain hole in the middle of the laundry room floor. We chose Bill because he was highly recommended by neighbors and coworkers in town. He quoted us a minimum price for a house call (which he stuck to) and was able to come over within the morning. He advised us not to hook our washer up to the drain (as without a water supply it would dry out) and instead shortened it (so it would be under the surface of the floor) and capped it. While he was at the house he also looked at two other known, less urgent issues and gave us estimates on them. We will definitely call him back when we get to those issues on our long list of things to be done on this house.

Gave us wrong information about sink replacement, measured incorrectly and had us order wrong sized sink which then could not be installed> Granite counter broken while he was pulling out old sink. He told us to get a "granite guy" saying it was flaw in granite. At that point we terminated any work with Mr. Perleoni
Response from WILLIAM B PERLEONI PLUMBING CO
"went to measure kitchen sink twice over a couple months time (no charge )told to get a drop in sink to go with granite called our supply house and explained what kind of sink was needed. Customer choose to go to a different supply house and ordered a stainless steel sink with track all the way around sink(not a drop in) went to pull out old sink granite was not installed properly it had been leaking Discovered when sink was pulled out. Did not break granite, granite was broken because seam was in the middle of sink on the front and back of counter . Instead of one piece granite. Sink had been leaking and rotted back splash due to improper installation. When I left I told customer to have counter done properly by a granite guy and to get a different sink and I would be back. It is unfortunate but not my fault."

Bill is very responsive, particularly when there is some kind of emergency. When the kitchen sink clogged he came out and fixed it within a matter of only a few hours, even though it was in the early evening; because we have been repeat customers he did not charge an arm and a leg for the off-hours work. For all the jobs he has done for us, Bill provided all the necessary materials and labor, hauled away any removed materials (e.g., old piping, valves, etc.), and cleaned up the work site. In a few situations Bill suggested several alternatives (e.g, toilets) and then followed through with our choices. For the big job of replacing the brass piping Bill had another plumber helping him to get the job done very quickly so that the time we were without water was kept down to a matter of only a very few hours. Bill gives firm estimates before doing the work, and then the final charge is exactly what he said it would be. On at least one occasions I knew that some plumbing work probably was going to be needed (corroding brass piping) but had no idea how to best approach it. Bill was perfectly willing to come out, look the situation over and make recommendations. Bill covers the Greater Hartford area and he does plumbing to make a living. But I get the distinct feeling that he looks out for his customers and wants to fix and help prevent problems. It seems to me that he has his customers' best interests in mind. Depending on the particular job involved, the work was either scheduled very quickly (e.g, within hours for the clogged drain) or within a few days or a week (e.g., replacing the corroded brass piping that was not actively leaking).
