A & J Tree Service LLC

As a homeowner, it is difficult to find contractors that you can trust and who will do the right thing when things inevitably don’t go according to plan. I didn’t listen to feedback from several others in my town about A & J Tree Services. Let my experience illustrate why you should not make the same mistake. Over the last couple of years, I have used A & J Tree Services for a number of different jobs ranging from pruning trees every couple of years to having several large trees removed from my backyard. All jobs have required driving a large bucket truck across my lawn. The larger jobs required the use of a Bobcat to remove tree limbs and other debris. Over the years, we have never had a problem with unexpected damage to our property. This past August it became clear that we needed to have our trees pruned. Realizing that Jim is a busy guy, I wasn’t upset when Jim showed up at our home in December unannounced and while we weren’t home. What really bothered me was trying to rationalize Jim’s twenty years of experience with the choice to drive a bucket truck over my lawn when conditions were so poor. While not every review site will allow me to post pictures, a quick google search will help you find them. The pictures speak for themselves. I have ruts that are 4+ inches deep across my entire front lawn. This is not a simple pick up a bag of dirt fix. The damage is bad enough that I’ll need to hire someone to bring in enough dirt to fill in the damaged areas and reseed the entire area. Based on Jim’s experience, I was sure that this was a mistake. Given on our existing working relationship and future plans, I was sure that Jim would do the right thing and resolve the damage to my yard. Long story short, Jim refused and became belligerent when we talked. Jim dug in and refused to even meet me half way. Disappointed, I told Jim I would be sure to share my experience with others. That’s when things went from bad to worse. Jim proceeded to verbally threaten me and “put me on notice”. While being threatened by a contractor is concerning, I decided to give Jim the benefit of the doubt and sent him a formal letter restating my concerns and included the very same pictures of the damage to my yard. The letter gave him two options, either choose to do the right thing and agree to deduct half of the cost of repairing the damage to my yard or simply cash the included check for the job. I was dumfounded when Jim confirmed that our experience represented his best work, 20 years of experience and how he treats the people he does business with. It’s clear that I could have saved myself a big headache by listening to the experience of several other people in my town. Learn from my mistake and heed the advice of others. Avoid A & J Tree Services and find a professional you can trust and who will do the right thing when things inevitably don’t go according to plan.

Excellent job.  Jim was highly responsive, and did a pretty big job quickly and neatly.  We will definitely use him again for the rest of our tree work and would highly recommend him.  Price was not the cheapest, but it was fair and worth it for the quality work.

All the work was accomplished in one day.  This is the second time we hired A & J Service.  I believe it was 2008, A & J took down 26 trees for us.

I found them on Angie's List. I had a birthday party coming up so the guy came out one morning because he knew I had a party coming up so they did all the work in one day. The weather was not working out with them, but it was something he felt comfortable doing so he did it. It was a great experience with them. I got the review from Angie's List which was extremely helpful because the guy who came out was awesome. Basically, I did not know they were even here. The way they cleaned up was phenomenal. They also were quick, professional and did a great job. I have worked with other people in the past and I really don't expect much from people that come and work around the house, but after working with them it was a rewarding experience. It was a good recommendation from Angie's List.

We had A&J deliver a cord of well seasoned firewood and on a second visit friended a stump for a felled tree.  Service was prompt (next day service) and very professional.  Would definitely recommend.

Perfect job from start to finish!  Lady in office very pleasant and informative.  Arrived on time, mats down on grass, safely removed tree, cleaned up after.  Last year this company had removed several large trees at my neighbor's house.  Saw what a good job they did so did not go elsewhere for a quote. Price very fair.  Would definitely recommend them. 

A&J Tree Service was prompt to return my phone call and set up an appointment. Their estimate was about $100 less than the nearest competitive quote we received. They are very professional and courteous. They use a bucket truck to cut trees and had to drive across my lawn. Normally if it was solid ground it would not be a problem but the lawn was a little soft and the truck left some tracks behind. As soon as they realized this, they used large protective mats over the lawn but the damage was already done. In the spring I had to add top soil to fill in the depressions in the yard left by the truck. Not a big deal but I did have to buy some top soil and grass seed.
As part of my estimate agreement, I asked for the wood chips from the trees to be dumped to the side of my yard to spread over an open space. Unfortunately, the dump truck with the wood chips would not fit under the power wires across my driveway. But I was assured that the next job they had in my area they would use a smaller dump truck to fit under the wires and leave a pile of wood chips for me. After about six months I called about the wood chips. They apologized for the delay and a few weeks later I arrived home to find a pile of wood chips waiting for me. So in the end it worked out fine.
Overall, A&J did a nice job removing my trees, doing a good clean-up afterwards. I would use them again. Be aware that they do use a bucket truck and may need to go across your lawn to access the trees you want removed. Just make sure they use their protective mats and you should be fine.

First contact was with a friendly and efficient woman who took my information and set an appointment for the next morning. Right on time Jim (the owner) was at my door. A quick walk around, a short discussion about what would and would not be done, and I had my quote. It seemed reasonable based on what I had learned from others, so I signed the contract on the spot. I was OK with a 3 week time window as it was a small job and I was in no rush.
Fast forward 3 days - I get a call to move my boat to provide access for the crew the next day. When I came home from work there was nothing left of the maple but the stump grindings (as agreed) and the ash tree was down and neatly sectioned into log lengths. Everything was exactly as promised, the area was left free of debris. I highly recommend A&J tree service.

Great service from start to finish. Upon calling for an appointment for an estimate I was given a time within 2 or 3 days plus an estimate of how far out the work could be done if I decided to move forward. Great information to know in advance. Jim the owner came to give the estimate, spent as much time as I needed to discuss the project and was able to come back within a week to do the work. Based on the reports I had read on Angie's list prior and my "gut feeling" about Jim I accepted the work without getting any additional bids. Jim and an assistant did the work as promised. They were in and out in now time and did an excellent job. I will use them in the future for any tree work I have.

Called earlier in the year for tree removal and finally got around to it in September due to the large volume of work from the storms.
Everything was done in a day and the next morning. No real problems and would use again without question.

A & J Tree Service LLC did a good job. Prices were average. They were careful. They were on time. I will use them again.

The biggest factor for us is the trust factor.  WE must trust the people who visit our home and work on our property.  We trust this man.So many tree branches, large ones, came down on our property, during that huge storm in February.  We finally got around to cleaning it all up.  Jim came over with his equipment and cut everything out of the way, used his Beaver tractor to gather it, got his chipper to shred it and hauled everything away, in 5 hours.  We're talking 1 acre of land.  Mostly, we were just awed at the skill level and downing the trees, branches and cleaning up with the equipment and the speed at which this happened.  Happy and Ecstatic over the work.

We got his name from my husbands co-worker that used him. So we gave him a call. And It went great! From start to finish! First they chopped the trees down, removed the limbs and but them in separate areas. He had a machine that lifted 3 logs at a time! He also used this machine to put the limbs in the chipper....which made the job move so fast! After talking to my best friend about what a great job they did. She said she knew of them and said she agreed that they do a great job. So I will be passing his number to anyone who needs fire wood or trees removed!

James came in the morning of june 29th ....looked at it gave me a quote. I accepted it as it was cheaper compared to the other quotes by 50 bucks and plus the reference on the angies list helped. The work was done the following week after independence day . i had mulch work happening on the same day as the tree cutting happened. The person who was doing the mulch work thought it would slow down his work and was impressed by how switly the trees were cut and hauled away. I would recommend these guys and use them for future projects.

Arrived on time with all the necessary equipment. Jim (Owner), provided me with helpful knowledge on how much you can prune a tree before you risk killing them. Very friendly, inexpensive and clean. I received estimates that were much higher. I recommend A & J Tree Service to anyone looking for tree work. Thanks Jim.

 I had a Maple tree fall on the roof in the back of my house Thursday night in the severe storms we had in Unionville.  I found A&J Tree Service on Angies list and called them Friday morning.  Jim (the owner) came over Friday afternoon and gave me a quote for getting the tree off the roof and hauling it away.  The insurance adjustor contacted me Saturday morning and approved the quote.  I called Jim to schedule and he came out Monday morning and performed the work.  He was very professional, courteous and punctual.  He removed the tree and cleaned up all the debris (including some from another tree).  He answered some questions about some other trees i have while he was here and I plan on using him again in the near future for some other tree removal I need done.  I would highly recommend A&J Tree Service, you won't go wrong.

It was very good. They were prompt and they did the work at a time that was convenient for me. They did a great job and they cleaned up afterwards. They even worked with neighbors during process to insure that nothing would affect their yard.
