I found they really did the minimum. Baseboards and many surfaces were always filled with dust, despite my request to attend to them, as the house had just been completely painted. Any single thing "extra", like wiping out a fridge, doing silver pieces or such was charged as extra.
I could never, never get them to come at the same time every week. The schedule constantly changed, which was a total annoyance.
The cleaners themselves were pleasant, but on two separate occasions, very expensive things were broken - and placed in a way they expected I wouldn't see the damage. The first time I complained, and all denied it (18th century black coral smashed and propped up on the mantle piece so it would look unbroken). The second time no one else had been in the house, and they denied it again (vacuum or something dragged across a zebra rug. Two pieces of the torn off hide were placed on top of the rug to look like it hadn't been ripped!).
The huge problem - HUGE problem - is the attitude of the office. They are the most:
aggressive,
defensive,
rude,
interrupting (you cannot finish a sentence, no matter how civilized you want to be)
and accusatory people I have ever encountered! You are trying to question why this damage has occurred and why no one will own up to it. They are running you over with sarcastic, rude, constantly interrupting commentary and making you feel like you're in a witness box!
I'd finally had enough of this behavior and fired them.
You must be able to trust that people left with your belongings will own up to any problems they encounter or damage they cause. Things do break, and most times they can be fixed/repaired. But having people in one's house who you know have lied about damage is so very disconcerting. What else could they be lying about?
I promptly hired a cleaner who has been successfully working for my neighbor, who is pleasant, honest - and ONE HALF THE PRICE!
- * Either upholstery was not vacuumed, some surfaces not dusted, etc.
- * We just weren't happy with their floor cleaning methods. They use microfiber mops and were willing enough to switch cleaning solutions but the floors just never were clean. After they left, I would wipe them with a damp paper towel and plenty of dirt would transfer to the towel.
- * They will not pick up anything (even a pair of shoes) left on the floor and clean under them.
- * Nor will they pick up/move anything on a display shelf, countertop, etc--kitchen counter canisters, knickknacks on display etc.--and dust/wipe them down or clean underneath them. I understand that a home should be picked up so they can clean but these were regular items on display and they were cleaned during the initial deep-clean, giving us the impression this would be the level of cleaning we would see each time.
- * Cleaning teams would differ each visit, so if you don't like repeating instructions or weren't at home during their cleaning time, this could be an issue.
These were very hardworking, dedicated teams of two who were constantly in motion. We feeel our issues were more of a training/ tight scheduling problem (management) than efforts/abilities of the cleaning teams. We have chosen to try another service rather than hash out all our points with management.
