McGoldrick Fuel

I was a customer of McGoldrick Fuel for many years without incident. They always came to fill up our tank when it got to half full. However, due to the timing of a long trip, I wanted to ensure that I would have the freedom to "shop around" for oil prices when I returned. This necessitated making sure that my current contract, which expires on July 31st, would not be automatically renewed. I wrote a letter stating that I would not be renewing the contract when it expired and asked that all necessary steps be taken to stop my automatic deliveries and payments. I delivered the letter to the McGoldrick office and asked the secretary who was present to sign the bottom of my copy as proof that I had delivered the letter one month in advance of the end of the contract. I left another copy of the letter with my signature.  
Three days later (a Saturday), I receive the copy of the letter back with a note stating that the letter was void because it was "not signed by an officer of the company". I read my contract and it only stated that they needed a written notice of any cancellation or nonrenewal. I returned to the office two days latter and asked that the original copy of the letter be signed by an "officer" of the company. I was told that it was the owner. I heard someone in a back office and told the secretary that I wanted something in writing stating that I was not going to renew the contract and therefore, no advance purchase of oil should be made on my behalf (along with a $900 fee if I cancelled before the end of that new contract). I heard the owner tell her that he had "pulled my ticket" and that no further deliveries would be made. I then asked again to have that in writing to protect myself from a penalty fee at a later date. The owner then came out of the office and told me that I had his word and I responded that that was fine but I needed something in writing. He then threatened to call the police if I did not leave the office and told me that he was not going to sign anything. When I again asked for him to at least sign my copy of the letter he told me to get the F--- out of the office.   I was a customer of theirs for almost 20 years. Why was I not given a written confirmation that my account would be closed when the contract expired??

I was very pleased with the service. The people who came in were very professional, on time, efficient, and they cleaned up after themselves.

THEY ARE VERY FRIENDLY, RELIABLE, AND RESPONSIVE ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE HEAT. THE PRICE IS COMPETITIVE. THEY'VE ALWAYS FIXED THINGS PROMPTLY, AND THE JOB IS ALWAYS DONE RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.
