It's a miracle of skill and accountability that made this bath come out so incredibly well. Have you ever had a project where everything that could go wrong went wrong? From schedule to broken items (when the boxes arrived at the house) to delays in delivery to wrong color cabinet to weird angles and much much more. I could go on and on but I'll stop here because through it all, fabulous owner, Skip, and his skilled worker, Bob, fearlessly tackled every bit of the adversity thrown at them and finally, made everything right. Quite remarkable. And the result is wonderful.
Here's what I really think: put your faith in Skip and he'll make everything come out right. My husband and I did. Last year, we'd already gone with Skip for our gorgeous kitchen remodel. This year, the master bath remodel. Skip's Mister Handyman is the best remodel outfit in the region.

I communicated with Skip, the owner of the service, prior to the designers coming out to the house. He is a terrific guy. I asked him if he would partner with us, as we might be using cabinets salvaged/purchased from Habitat for Humanity Restore. I needed to know what space/measurements I had to work with, and would use Handyman for parts of the project. He was open to this idea. We had used Handyman before and were very impressed by the professionalism of Skip and his team. We thought we'd give the Kitchen Design service a shot. While in the end, it ended up okay (thanks to Skip and his intervention), I was far from impressed with the end product. Three people came to my home to measure the space (the guy that measured was AWESOME) and to hear our vision for our kitchen. We found the main consultant to be resistant to our ideas, shooting them down and in the first rendering of the "design", ignored our primary desire for open shelving, and didn't give us views of the entire kitchen. The missing shot was sent and depicted a cabinet with no doors on it. After some intervention with Skip (again, can't say enough positive about him), the designer called me because she was told I had "changed my mind" on the design. After a brief, discussion in which it was clear she resented calling, Skip forwarded one more view of the kitchen design with what the designer called, "floating shelves" (pointing out to me that she uses that term rather than open shelving- our problem had been in the terms we used...). The pictures did not include measurements of cabinets or what they were for (garbage, etc.) After dropping 60k on our kitchen reno at our old house and having several estimates/designs done, for free, I couldn't help but feel that because we weren't doing that type of reno on our new house (20k) the designer wasn't very interested in the project. We will use Handyman again for other projects in the future, but not kitchen design. There might be a learning curve for them in this area.

"I agree with many of the member's comments regarding our difficulty in meeting her expectations. We've withdrawn the $49 design consultation for this reason. It's impossible to do anything meaningful for clients who only want a design. On the other hand, our design/build clients are extremely happy with our work. In one month, a miracle was performed by Mr. Handyman of Fairfield County. They took a dark hole of a kitchen and turned it into a light-filled, functional, attractive and elegant space. It is now THE best room in the house. I was impressed from the moment of the initial appointment when 4 people walked into the house (the owner, Skip; 2 designers, Noreen and Linda; the main worker/artisan, Bob, who would do most of the job and the project manager, Jim.) My reaction was: my kitchen is being taken seriously! And I loved that.
Mr. Handyman also came with a plumber, an electrician and whoever else might be needed for the job. Very organized. Each evening I got a call from their office to tell me at what time the worker would come. And he was always on time! With Skip, we worked on budget and timing; with the designers we worked on getting my ideas and their ideas together to create a cohesive and beautiful whole and Worker Bob made it all happen. I must mention that I believe a good outfit such as Mr. Handyman doesn't happen by chance. The quality trickles down from the top and with Skip at the helm, this team is the best.
Professional, courteous, quality- oriented, I could really see each of these words come to life as my new kitchen took form. And it took one month. We already had the appliances so we changed the cabinets, put in a large island, redid electricity, repainted and fixed floors, added a lot of crown moulding and created a new cabinet/countertop space out of an old pantry. Several of the cabinets go down to the counter now with lovely glass doors. The electrician found some fabulous under-the-counter and inside cabinets lights, the sort that has 21 different colors and several modes from fade to blink from one color to another -if we wanted to, we could have a disco in there! The kitchen is now a showpiece, a stunning white, elegant light-filled, easy to use space. Thank you Mr. Handyman. You will soon be back for all my other remodeling projects.

Mr. Handyman did a wonderful job on our bathroom renovation. We had special considerations because we are a school and Bob worked with me on how best to go about achieving what we needed. Linda was wonderful in helping me plan the bathroom. She helped me save money while making wonderful decorating suggestions for lights, sinks, etc. Bob was very friendly, started work on schedule, and worked hard everyday to get the job done on time. There was no wondering where he was or when he would be back. Which means a lot! I would recommend Mr. Handyman to anyone without reservation.

Skip and his team came in and worked with us over several sessions to design the kitchen that is right for our house. Mike was there almost every day for weeks at 8 AM, made an amazing amount of progress every day, and cleaned up every night. Our kitchen turned out better than I could have ever expected, and I'd happily recommend them to anyone, and I'd also happily have them back anytime to do more project.

He did an excellent job on a tricky ceiling repair (100 year old plaster/lathe under a layer of drywall). He came back several times -- at no extra charge, to perfect the mudding and sanding of the repair. The lighting fixture went up just fine. He even demonstrated for me how to add more lamps to the track, especially how to do so safely. The trimming of the skylights looks great. All the miters are tight.
The price quote for the built-ins seemed exorbitant, so we decided to look for some second opinions. We still need to do that! However, I have no doubt the work would be good, based on the carpentry skills and attention to detail we saw!
They also had great customer service on the phone.

The work was done perfectly the to the predetermined specifications. I have nothing but good things to say about the experience. Everything went perfectly. Like in other reviews the only drawback is the expensive price, but the quality of the work was top notch.

It wasn't a good experience. A major leak developed in the bathroom, but the manager was combative, said that no one would be available to help until the next week, and said that it was my fault that I hadn't scheduled the work sooner. I thought that this was ridiculous since the leak was unplanned. Thus, I asked the manager that my deposit be returned so that I could hire another company to fix the leak, but he was very unprofessional and said he wasn't going to do so. Ultimately, we were able to negotiate a deal where the deposit was used to pay for some light carpentry work.

"The member hired us to remodel a bathroom. The day before we were scheduled to start he informed me that he had hired another contractor without even giving me a chance to respond. He agreed that this was unfair. I explained that the late cancellation would have been very costly, since we had declined other work in order to be available for his project. I insisted that he honor his commitment because I knew he had other work to be done. We finished our work on schedule and on budget. My understanding is that the other contractor did not. I appreciate the concern regarding professionalism and combativeness. I take people at their word and I honor my commitments. I can be a very impatient when commitments are broken. I'll try harder to be more empathetic in the future."

Ron was right on time and ready to go to work. He assessed the situation and immediately knew what he was going to do!
The work went smoothly and he actually finished ahead of the estimated time given to do the job.
At the end of the job he went above and beyond and added a little cement work to pretty up the job!
This company has friendly techs that have the knowledge to do any job that you throw at them!!!

The tech sent to do the work was knowledgeable and friendly! The whole job went very smoothly from start to finish! He finished the job in one day not worrying about how much time it was taking. He also solved any problem situations that came up during the installation! What a great company to have found! We are already looking to use them again to update our bathroom!

I went on Mr. Handyman's website and emailed a list of the work I needed to get done. The next day, the owner Skip Wyatt called to schedule the work and told me that it should take four hours but would probably go over to a much longer time (6-7 hours) because the list was extensive. I said that wouldn't be a problem and we scheduled the work to be done in two weeks. The day that the work was scheduled, Mike (our repairman) arrived 15 minutes early and we went over exactly what needed to be done. In the original list, I had listed less things but since he was there I added on the shower head and switches to be repaired. Mike started to work on the electrical problems first. Our home was built in 1950 and had some of the original cord wiring so replacing the lighting fixtures was a problem. Mike upgraded all of the wiring and then put in the fixtures, boxing up the old lights and cleaning up as he went along. He would stop and let us know if there were any problems, which was helpful. At one point, I went out to buy the switches and some other things Mike needed and he gave me a detailed list while my husband stayed in to help Mike lift out the old fixtures and bring up the new ones. Our new sconces did not come with pre drilled holes and on/off switches so Mike remedied that. Also, the new vanity's plumbing didn't exactly fit in the cabinet so Mike used part of the old and cut out a section so the shelf could still be used. Mike was in our home till about 3:00 pm. Since we ran into so many electrical problems I figured it wouldn't be the 4 hours that was estimated, so we were fine with the price. I would recommend Mr. Handyman and Mike to anyone. They are a lot cheaper than the people from the Pennysaver that I called who quoted me $1400.00 for the same work.
