"I believe in fare wage for quality work. This former customer kept having us come out numerous times to discuss a tree job (see below) and a masonry job. He gave the masonry job to an uninsured, non-licensed, foreign speaking company who came in at a much lower price than the going rate in the area (NOTE: the customer actually told me, "the price I got this guy for is so ridiculously low that I'm embarrassed to ask you to re-bid it."). Further, the customer had tree to be removed that was considered town property . I informed him that I was not licensed to do tree work, but he asked that I meet with prospective arborists for him. At first, I did. After calling and meeting with various tree companies -- two of whom I recommended and one that he had found -- and after I had spoken twice with the town's tree warden (the tree was town property), the customer asked that I meet with yet another tree company. Each meeting was at least one hour of my time. So I informed him that I cannot keep making calls, meeting with various companies to describe/show the work, and managing this project that is out of the area of my companies work, without compensation for future meetings. I respected his time and expect a customer to respect mine, as well. I realized that in so asking to be compensated that I would likely lose him as a client. But, as we all realize, some customers are not a good fit for our services... As a small business owner I absolutely make sure that our customers are extremely satisfied with our work and my working relationship with them (see our Facebook/BrenLandscapingAndMasonry Testimonials). My company has been in business since 2003. We do full-service landscaping and masonry work for about 100 customers per year, most of whom we have had since the first year or two of our company. We have a Better Business Bureau rating of A+ since 2009 with zero complaints. We give great service to our customers, lifetime warranties on our paver patios, and are happy to give names and numbers of our many satisfied landscaping and masonry clients in your town."
