He "plowed" and charged $54 for December 30th, when there was no plowable snow. He stated in a later Email that there were no stakes to mark the driveway. That is not factual - there were actually at least a dozen orange stakes placed to mark the driveway, which the plow driver ran over. The plow driver ran over two expensive pieris japonica bushes, and broke many branches off, which were scattered about the driveway. The usual plowing services were not provided - the rear entry was not shoveled, and the front walkway to the sidewalk was not shoveled (a path was shoveled from the front porch, across the lawn, to the driveway.) It was very unprofessional, to ring my doorbell, after dark, to tell me, with no prior notice, that my driveway was "too much trouble" and that he would not be doing it any more. In addition, when I asked him to refer another service, he said "call me tomorrow." When i called the next day, he never answered my call. In summary, I cannot recommend his snow plowing services.
Response from Stopa Landscaping
"I'm sorry but your just angry because I told you that your driveway was to difficult to do. I came by to check on the job on January 4 after we got a foot of snow and I did correct a narrow path in the back . You did not even have to call to ask me to do that. I chose not to plow your driveway anymore after taking in to consideration how much extra shoveling that there is to do. And that the bushes make it very narrow between the driveway and house. A few years back we had to replace a dryer vent that was hit plowing your property because it is no narrow. When I went to your door you said why can't you do the job any longer you guys do such a great job. I gave you plenty of notice to find another service. In fact it has almost been a month and it has not snowed since that day. You did send me a pic of the pieris that had about 10 leaves knocked off of it. No damage to the actual bush at all . Also December 30 was 2 inches of snow and it was going to stay cold outside after. We come out 2 inches or more. You know that. Not to mention that was not even an issue for you until I suggested we stop service after the January 4th foot of snow. I'm sorry but you are just looking for excuses because I was upfront and told you it would be best if we did not continue snow plow service."

I can not recommend Stopa Landscaping highly enough. Jeff Stopa was very responsive, pleasant and helpful. His team worked hard and efficiently, and did not hesitate to ask questions if there was a judgment call that needed to be made. The price was very reasonable, and the work was done as well as I could possibly have asked. I will happily hire them again.

Stopa and team went so far beyond my expectations and beyond the duties of the contract. Jeff and Jennifer worked amazingly with my architect, who lives 4 hours away and couldn't always be on site. My property includes areas of varying sunlight and soil / drainage. We needed lots of help choosing the right plantings for the right areas and they did an amazing job. In the very rare instance that a plant hasn't made it, Stop and team have replaced it free of charge- often before I had noticed. We had several contractors before Stopa that were doing the masonry. Stopa and team came in and fixed / altered parts of the plan where the prior team had cut corners. Throughout the project, we always felt the team really cared about the results and that made the whole thing enjoyable. Since completion, they often come by to check in on us and the fruits of their labor. They enjoy what they do, and their pride in their work is rare! Not a day goes by that we don't have a neighbor stop to complement us on the job.

Amazing! Jeff Stopa helped us landscape around our new pool. Jeff and his team helped pick the right trees, build walls, plant trees, moved huge boulders and seed grass. It was an amazing experience and Jeff helped walk me through each step. With his help, we achieved our goal on time and the finished project is stunning.

Three years ago I moved into my new husband?s house in Fairfield. It?s a beautiful piece of property with a babbling brook running through the front yard. The property had been landscaped two owners ago and over the years begun to show it?s wild side.
Back in August we set out to tame the wilderness and were fortunate to discover Stopa Landscaping of Fairfield, CT.
Jeff Stopa and his crew proved wonderful to work with from the very beginning. They returned calls within a few hours at most and were always available to discuss details. The crew was one of the hardest working groups of people I have ever seen. And they have reason to be proud of the work they do. The landscape designer, Jennifer Simko is truly an artist and created the perfect landscape to complement our stream.

Just this week Stopa was back doing work for our neighbors. We share a driveway as well as the brook and are proud of the space that encapsulates both properties. The work that Stopa did on my neighbor?s property is spectacular.
Thank you Jennifer and everyone at Stopa for giving us a parkland to come home to every day.

Stopa provided a drawing and a written estimate showing what I believed to be a finished landscape. I approved. The estimate was for $2600.  In the drawing, the bushes were clearly shown with heights unto the top of the porch, and to the bottom of our bay window.  The planting was done while I was away, and my wife sent me a finished picture. I was immediately concerned at how barren the landscape looked relative to the rendering.  I told Jeff as much and he basically said we did what was listed in the estimate.
I then did the research I should have done prior to accepting.  As a homeowner, I didn't know the difference between 1, 3 or 5 gallon plants/bushes. Post completion -   I estimated the plant and bushes cost at $700 ($1000 retail, and 30% wholesale discount).  And his labor cost somewhere in the $300 range based on # of workers and time spent.  I estimated $300 in OH costs, leaving a $1300 profit. Had he put in the appropriately sized bushes, the entire project would have felt far more reasonable, and per drawing. I would have been happy, and he still would have had a sizable profit of $1000 or more on an exceedingly simplistic job.
Jeff is a nice guy, and I am sharing only so others can do their homework upfront and realize the amount of profit built into his estimates.  And to know that the drawing may not accurately reflect the finished product.

Response from Stopa Landscaping
"[Member name removed], I want to start off saying sorry if you were not happy with the finished product but by the 4 th time we designed your planting job I guess that's my fault for not realizing that you would not have been happy with anything. We did not charge for any of the design time by the way! We informed you before starting your project that you having us revise to save money would affect the size of what we planted but if you had a budget to stick to with time it would grow in. I had 4 workers at your home for 12 hours [Member name removed] can you please inform me what I should pay these people so that they can afford to live? I am fair with what I pay my workers and your analysis of labor costs is way off. I would also like to mention that we did remove several other bushes in the front and cut down and dug out a rather large cherry tree of which that labor cost was less and we did reflect that to you in our final price which was lower than what we estimated and you agreed to. As I told you in person [Member name removed] your cost analysis is off and incomplete for this project. And if cost analysis is somthing you do professionally I really would hope that you take moe time doing so because if not I believe that whoever else you run numbers for may have a serious financial problem on there hands."

They removed all of our old, outdated and overgrown plantings.  They provided all new plants and bushes and a thick layer of mulch.  They worked closely with me in designing the layout and plants required to accomplish the job we wanted.  When we needed to reduce the price slightly they worked with me by separating parts of some existing plants and moved them to new areas.  We needed to be sure that the plants in part of the job would not be invasive to our outdoor drainage system and they were very helpful in choosing plants that would be safe and attractive.  The yard all ready looks so much better and will only continue to improve as the new plantings fill in.  They worked all day long, even past normal quitting time to accomplish everything in one day,  They left everything in immaculate condition.  You would never had known that there had been dirt and mulch all over just a short time earlier.  I am extremely happy with their work and would not even consider anyone else for any of my future landscaping needs.

I was very happy with Jeff and the work he and his guys did. His estimate was right-on and it seemed like he put a lot of thought into the price - he didn't just make something up. He himself came out for the estimate, and he was quick with the estimate. Once we set the date, he arrived on time with his guys and everything went well. When I arrived home, it was all done and they were just leaving. We paid half before they started and half when they left. He took the time when I got home to show me everything they had done.
One thing I liked was even though they don't do tree stump removal themselves, Jeff knew a guy who did it, and he had him come do it (and got the estimate first). It was nice because I didn't have to call the guy myself, set up another appointment, etc. - he just came while Jeff was there and did it. As a new homeowner, I'll take anything that reduces the amount of headache for me!
Jeff had to come back a few days later to remove some stuff and we didn't even need to be there for him. I came home from work and it was all gone and done, and the tree stumps were removed. I liked that everything was taken care of.
On top of the work itself, Jeff is a nice guy and you don't feel like he's rushing you or ripping you off like some landscapers. He is a fair guy and I will definitely do business with him again.

Response was completely unfounded.
Our landscaper that replaced Stopa Landscaping did an amazing job and went above and beyond in every detail.
I would have responded sooner, but just saw this and had to write so that no one else gets dreadful service as we did...

"I have worked for this client for 2-3 years we were only contracted to cut the grass and put down mulch as requested by her. When she requested that 2 bushes be planted this past spring that was not a problem. The only problem was that she left the bushes locked in her garage and so we could not plant them. I recieved a nasty call from her that night asking why the bushes were not planted. I then asked her to leave them out and I would come plant them within a week and to water them as needed. It did go to ten days as I had a scheduling conflict ( I did contact her to let her know of the tardiness). I then got 2 nasty emails threatening that if I was not at her home to plant the bushes she would hire another company. She also asked that I transplant 2 other bushes which I did for free as a courtesy. At that time I told her that the bushes she wanted planted died because she did not water them and I did not think it was professional to plant dead bushes . She then complained about the condition of her lawn. She said she wanted someone to take care of her lawn and fertilize. I told her the dead areas in her lawn were caused by her dogs urinating. I also said it could be corrected but the dead areas would keep coming up as the dogs continued to urinate on the lawn. I suggested a program to care better for the lawn as well as the need for regular watering. I was waiting for her response to the suggested work when I recieved an email from her yesterday morning which said 'DO NOT mow the lawn for three weeks' and nothing else. I then emailed her back taking the opportunity to thank her for her business and also declining to do any further work for her. I declined to do further work for her because of her disrespectful attitude and comments toward me on the phone and in emails. I have no problem working with customers and listening to concerns."

Our property line is higher than our neighbor's by several feet. The original stone wall that kept our property from falling on to my neighbor's was built 60 years earlier and was in various stages of collapse.  The stone wall is about 60' long with heights up to three and a half feet.  For Jeff to rebuild the wall, he had to remove two feet of dirt on our property right behind the wall.  He cleaned out overgrown vegetation and removed a large amount of roots.  To make the property look clean and to make the stone wall last longer, Jeff took out a large tree stump and several large plants where the roots, over time, would damage the wall.  Jeff transplanted several plants to other parts of our backyard.  Then Jeff put in a drainage pipe to remove excess water that could develop against the base of the wall.  Without the pipe, in the winter the excess water would freeze and, again over time, push against the wall making it unstable.  Throughout the week and a half long process, Jeff checked the work daily.  Jeff also talked to my next door neighbor to make sure he wouldn't worry about his side of the property line.  The people who work for Jeff were always polite and friendly.  After finishing the wall, Jeff laid down dirt, hay and grass seeds.  By the end of November, the grass grew in and the wall and property looked great.  Our next door neighbor has complimented Jeff’s work to us several times.  To sum it up, Jeff did a terrific job of cleaning up, making the property look much better than our expectations and we don't have to think about the wall anymore.  We are entirely satisfied with Jeff's work and professionalism.

We needed a tiny-sized lawn to be landscaped.  I called a number of firms, most of whom seemed less than interested when they saw the size of our lawn.  I could tell that the other companies were looking for the big jobs.  Stopa Landscaping, on the other hand, treated us like we were their most important customers.

They came out, listened to our ideas, returned with a set of drawings complete with color "artist's renderings" of what the job would look like when they were finished.  Very impressive.

Also impressive was how they had a designer who worked with us and helped us feel like there was some style and thought to the process, not just plants dropped into the ground.  She even helped me decide that the tree in my yard probably would have to be removed, even after I peppered her with questions about whether we could move it to the back yard, etc.  She was patient with me, which I appreciated.

They came when they said they would, worked quickly, and cleaned up after themselves.  One of the principals of the company was here to oversee the work.  I have never had landscaping done before, so I would have no idea if they were priced well, but it seemed reasonable.  They even seemed to completely understand when I chopped the job by a third deciding to use a friend of the family for the backyard rather than Stopa's Landscaping.

After a long summer, the yard still looks great and the different plants are blooming at the various different times, just as we asked them to design for us.  We are the talk of the neighborhood, and I would recommend them to anyone who wanted great service from professionals.

Jeff and his crew came by and cleared the whole thing (including a massive bush and what I thought was a tree .. it was a 15ft weed).

They were quick, on time, professional and best of all the job went easy and they actually did it for less than the original quote!  That is honesty you don't find often.

Just super. I would give him a five of five, if there was a five out of five or a ten out of ten. His overall personality and professionalism was impeccable. I haven't got anything really negative to say about this man and his company. I mean from the first consultation to the end of the work was super. I commend him and recommend him to so many different people, that's how well we got along. I have meaning to actually do his reference because he deserves that. I hope that his company does expand. I hope that there are other landscapers that are as attentive as he is as an individual and a young teen. I have no complaints at all and I am actually going to have him again to do some more work done.
