Meeting Steve the Roofman I felt I was in good hands but I also had an unconditional recommendation from friends who used him 16 years ago and were extremely happy with his work and have never had a problem with their roof in 16 years.  If I mentioned something to Steve once, he remembered it.  He also went out of his way to pick up gutter screens for me when I decided at the last minute to put new ones in.  Steve's crew worked hard and did a great job cleaning up my yard.  They used a leaf blower to clean up small debris that went off the tarps.  Then they used a metal detector to find every last nail.  Back in 1988 I had my previous roof put on and I was finding nails in the yard years later--I bet I'd be hard pressed to find one nail with Steve's work.  Also the previous roofer used staples to secure the shingles and Steve uses 7 or more nails per shingle--much more secure!  When I said to put extra nails in the ridge vent Steve assured me that instead of the 1 3/4" nails that come with the ridge vent, he uses 3" nails.   Steve didn't overlook a thing.  My entire house was draped with tarps.  I check every inch and there were no marks on my vinyl siding from the shingles.  I checked every shrub and not so much as a branch was broken.  Steve started at sunup and worked till sundown never taking a break as he wanted to ensure that my roof was covered for the night.  Also Steve was extremely careful of my brand new Trek decking and it was tarped and I did not suffer any scratches, marks or dents.  As far as I am concerned Steve the Roofman did a perfect job--he takes pride in his work--something you don't find much of anymore.  I am super duper pleased and feel very secure with my new roof!

2 Giant pallets of shingles arrived Monday. Thursday the crew of 6 arrived at 7am, as promised. At 7:01 the house was tarped, crew topside, and shingles flying off! By noon the front roof was down to plywood and being prepped for new shingles, a dumpster was on scene, and the old shingles loaded. A bit later the pneumatic nailer started, securing shingles like a machinegun. At sunset the front and back main roofs were reshingled. At the next day the whole house and a shed were complete, the entire work site clean. I later found 2 nails and a 3 inch piece of edge flashing.

{A couple of weeks later a neighbor re-roofed their home. Half the size. Five days by hammer and nail. The crew spent a lot of time on the ground on cell phones. }

Steve and his team are a pleasure to work with . They are clean, timely, and professional as was their clean-up. I would recommend them highly to anyone in the Hartford, New Haven or Fairfield County area. I am sorry I did not know of them early on.
