The second time we took the car in the service was better, though I think their notes to each other should be more thorough. This time they installed the inner door seal, they washed the car as is their practice (but which they hadn't done the last two times).
There was still a mix-up about the appointment times. The e-mails I got regarding appointment times didn't match the day they told me when I set up the appointment in the first place.
I haven't had any problems with the door seal since.
Later, in January, I was near their service department when my low tire pressure alarm went off. I stopped in in the middle of that snow storm with no appointment. They fitted me into their schedule, re-inflated the tires that had been last inflated in August, adjusted the tire pressure alarm for winter, and sent us on our way in an hour with half an hour of shop time as the charge. Not bad.
I had no problem making an appointment right away with a replacement car to drive while the car was in the shop.
Evidently, even though we had made an appointment with Hoffman, Hoffman had not made arrangements with the rental car company they use for replacement cars. I'm not sure exactly what happened there, but my wife was given a huge passenger van (!) to drive and we were told we would have to pay for the gas.
I called the service department around noon to find out when the car would be ready as my wife needed to know if she should drive to Hoffman from work or drive home and if the service would be complete that day or if we would need to keep the van another day. They didn't know when the car would be ready and I was told they wouldn't know until 3:30 when it would be ready.
The car was ready when I called back at 3:30 so my wife went to pick it up. Hoffman says they wash the cars after service but they didn't wash our car and left a hand print on the roof. When I checked the door seal, it was still loose, though not halfway off as before. The leak in the driver's side door has not re-occurred.
Because I had an appointment in November for the first free oil change, I decided to wait until then to ask about the loose door seal.
At 7:30am on the day of my oil change appointment I called the service department to ask what time my appointment was. Both the web site and the phone tree messages say that the service department is open at 7:30. They were closed. I called at 7:45, 8:00 and 8:15 and they were still closed. No one answered the phone until 8:30 and then it took another phone call and several go-arounds with the phone tree and 11 minutes before I could speak with a person in the service department.
Despite an e-mail from Hoffman stating the date of my appointment, I wasn't on their list for an appointment that day. The receptionist said to come in anyway so we did. They changed the oil and looked at the seals on the doors and told me I would have to bring the car back to have both rear door seals replaced. I asked why I hadn't been told that at the first service visit but the service manager did not know.
The service manager apologized for not being able to wash my car on a weekend so I told him it hadn't been washed last time either even though that had been a week day. Oh, and both times they didn't close the hatch back properly. (No big deal and I wouldn't even mention if it hadn't been for everything else.)
So, they are ordering a door seal for each of the two rear doors and I will have to make another appointment to have them installed. I'll leave another rating after that service appointment.
The intake process is quick and their staff are all very professional. My car is usually ready earlier than the promised time.
