I dropped off my '99 Maxima and explained the issue I was having with it. I was told that it probably just needed a tune up and he'd take a look at it. I explained that I work third shift so if he called and I didn't answer then to just leave a message. When I woke later that evening I saw that he did leave a message for me to call back.

The next morning after work I returned the call and he explained what the problem was. It had just needed a tune up but the rear struts were also really bad. The car already has 180,000 miles on it and has pretty bad body rust so I asked, realistically, how much life it actually had left and was told that it's not unusual for it to last another 20k if I treat it right. When I asked for the estimate he told me what the shocks would cost and then said, "Well, what I already did cost about $380.00."

What?! I never signed anything when I dropped it off and never spoke with him when he called that evening to give verbal authorization. He claimed that by him saying "it probably needs a tune up" and that I handed him my keys that that was authorization. He even put in a new coil that cost me $80 because "it needed it" but wasn't part of a normal tune up.

I explained that had I known it would have cost me that much I never would have authorized it as the car wasn't worth it. He claimed to have given me a fair price, but that's beside the point in that it shouldn't have been done at all.

All in all, I am out almost $400 not by choice and my check engine light is on again. I would never recommend this repair shop to anyone.
