On 10/18/15 we agreed on a price of $900.00 Nils said it was only a 2-3 days job & would get on it on 10/20/15 starting at 9 AM. I stayed out of work & waited until noon & called him....he finally showed up late in the afternoon with 1 guy. His guy stayed about 1 hour & left. The next day, again, no one showed up until later in the day when the same guy showed up, this time with his young son & started stripping off the old shingles. It was clear that this team was someone Nils must've picked up somewhere to work for him. By the next day, they had the old roof & plywood off & Nils promised they would be back the next day to start putting down the new plywood & button things up because we were being threatened with very heavy rain the day after that. The next day, no one showed up & Nils didn't return my calls. In the message I left him I expressed my concerns about the weather. I had originally told him not to strip the roof unless he was sure he could come back the next day & keep working. I finally got a hold of him the following day & toward the end of the day while I was at work someone came & threw a couple of tarps over my completely exposed roof. That evening heavy storms came through & my wife & I were up all night trying to keep up with the water that was pouring into our kitchen in several places, including light fixtures. I called Nils in the middle of it but again got his answering machine. As a result, part of our kitchen ceiling came down, wallpaper peeled back & several pcs. of the wood framing around my windows split from absorbing so much water. Nils stayed away the following day but when he finally showed up said he would repair the damage but I ended up paying & fixing it myself. Next, he informed me that the only way to fix my roof properly was to tear off all of the remaining plywood & replace most of the studs & put down 8 sheets of 3/4" plywood, but now the price would be $2325.00. Over the next couple of days, he showed up with the plywood & 5 studs. Soon after, I noticed he only used a couple of sheets of the plywood & only a couple of studs he brought. I also bought several rolls of insulation so he could place them between the studs as he went along. It turns out his guys only installed a couple of pcs. & left all the other rolls unused, because they never opened up the whole roof like they said they would. When I confronted Nils about this, as now my roof didn't lay flat, he said that was as good as it was going to be. When he left, he took the unused 3/4" sheets of plywood & the studs that he was supposed to use but didn't. Reluctantly, I paid him, but every time we got a driving rain, water was still coming in & I ended up replacing another section of my ceiiliing, fixing around my windows & repainting... calls to him went unanswered. Most recently, another storm came through & a 4' x 5' section of my ceiling came down, again. I sent Nils an e-mail last Friday & he said he'd come the next day to check it out. He came on Saturday & went up on his ladder & found a good size hole in the side of the roof, apologized & owned up to the fact that his guy should have done it differently & how he didn't install drip-edge where he should have & that he would make it right. He came & with my help, we installed new plywood on my ceiling. After that he was supposed to go outside & repair the damaged roof, instead, he got in his van & left. I figured he went to get material to do the repair. After a couple of hours I called him with no response. I also called him 2 more times in the following 2 days. This past Sunday, more rain accompanied by more damage. I am nearly 66 years old w/ 2 hip replacements & 2 back surgeries but Tuesday morning I'm on a ladder trying to patch my roof as best I can before the next storm comes along. Check out his D- rating on the BBB CT. website.
