They came on time (within the four hour window) Were clean and neat. The problems came after. The next day I started having problems /two of my toilets would not stop running and one would run at all. I had to replace the fill valves. I was getting a sand coming through the sink faucets which clogged up the aerators. Had to clean them. I then realized my sprinkler system had not been working. Again the filter clogged with sand. One sink I have no cold water. So far I was able to fix everything but the cold water myself. Called and talked to field manager. They won't take any responsibility for the problem. Just stating its happening because I might have small leak in the pump. Funny how I never had a problem before they came. By the way they also quoted me prices for a new pump.

The team arrived in a timely manner and got the system working. They recommended that the system was working on borrowed time and suggested one very expensive repair and an even more expensive option to upgrade. Working off their information of a compromised system I was ready to make a decision but wanted to check references. In checking I found that several people had complained about being scammed for way over priced fixes. So I had a second opinion and they found all that needed to be replaced was a switch. I paid $300 versus recommendations of $4,400 and $7,600. Be very, very careful in judging their proposals.

A pair of them waved a magnet around on a string with no results what so ever.  After they left I dug a few shallow holes and found it myself.

Two men came out within hours of our initial call. After determining that well pump needed to be replaced- which had to be done during daylight hours- they returned early the following day and completed the job. We needed to decide whether we wanted "city" pressure, which would have cost substantially more. Otherwise, they presented the possibilities of needing to replace the in-well wiring as well as the wiring from the well to the house. The latter was not necessary- in our case, that would have entailed digging up our driveway. Work was completed within several hours. We were given detailed instructions on flushing the system and delaying use of our washer and dishwasher for 48 hours, to avoid clogging their filters with debris from the churned-up well water. The workers were prompt and behaved professionally. This occurred before we had snow on the ground, which made their job easier. We also knew exactly where our well is located. Pricing seemed a little steep, but with suddenly no water in winter, we did not have the luxury of comparison-shopping. Apparently it is industry standard to charge travel time for each worker, which added approximately $800 to our cost.

Called Greco & Haines on Sunday morning to explain although not a true "emergency", would like to speak to someone ASAP on Monday as we were without water. Received a call back very quickly stating they could have someone out Monday morning to diagnose the problem. Received a call at 7:45 Monday morning saying a technician should be on the road by 9:00 and on site around 9:30. Two technicians arrived around 9:45, and I explained the situation. They asked if I had any idea where on the property our well was located. Fortunately I had a map because the well head was about three feet below the surface, but they said they could contact the city to determine where it was. They ere able to estimate the job would cost around $2,700 if things went according to plan. They were able to dig out the well head in about 30 minutes. About 2 hours from the beginning of the job, the well pump was replaced. The only issue with the job is that the concrete well cap cracked when they removed it, and it had to be replaced. I was charged for the new cap, and for the 30 minute drive time for them to drive back and replace it (which happened to days later). The hole was filled in and everything worked fine. They briefly explained the process of having to flush the system every hour for ten minutes until the water ran clear. They didn't explain that all of the faucet aerators should be removed before using them for the first time, but did provide an instruction sheet which detailed exactly how to do that. All in all I was pleased with the price and performance, although I believe the $1,100 they charged for the pump itself was marked up significantly from their price.

I had hire Eastern Equipment Co. because I did not have any water. They came over and changed the pump, water line that connects to the pump and electrical wiring. There still was no water after they left. After three days without water I called Greco and Haines and they were able to determine that the water line from my house to the pump had a hole in it. They were able to determine this by pressure testing the line.
The water line was replace and we had water again. Thank you Greco and Heines.

Water failed on Saturday and they came out within 2 hours of being called. Claimed that our well pump had failed ( I have no way of checking the veracity). They repolaced the pump with a slightly stronger pump, chlorine shocked the well and and gave instructions for flushingout the well from sludge. The Chlorine gradually diminished over the following week. A+ for a great respnse and repair during the weekend, the price $2400 seems high. They did not replace the well cap which one reviewer stated was a reqirement in CT. The repair man was polite and answered questions. He did track a little mud in the house but noticed it before I did and apologized. In the future, for non emergancy repairs i will check out prices from other companies.

They were knowledgeable but a little bit too strong in the sales side to try to replace some things that don't need to replaced. But, they are reputable and they did a good job. They were prompt. They are high priced to me but I'm not sure if I quoted them or not.

Our well water went out one morning and I called Greco and Haines at 5:30 am and got someone on the phone (I was impressed) and said they would send someone out that morning and they would call when they were on their way. The service guy did some tests and confirmed that the well pump was dead and needed to be replaced. This is typically a straightforward process, however, the former owners of our home did not install an above ground well head when the pump was last replaced, which meant they would have to dig to find the well. Also complicating the fact is that the map which supposedly showed where the well was was totally inaccurate. About 3 hours were wasted from this map, and by the time they found the well, it was getting dark and they had to come back the next day to finish the job. In any event, once they found the well, things went smoothly. It took them about 6 hours to replace the well pump as well as install an above ground well head (I did not want to go through the digging etc. again if we have to replace it, plus its better for the well). Both workers were super nice and professional. All in, we spent about $6,500 total, which included the digging, removal and installation. It would have been less if that map was at all accurate.

Although our experience was not completely negative, I would never recommend Greco and Haines. We called a few well services when our water stopped working late Saturday afternoon, and they did get the water running again that day (although the water was dirty and couldn't be used for washing clothes, washing dishes or cooking for over a week).

On the plus side: Greco and Haines quoted us a per person hourly rate that was the same as the other places we called, and we figured having two technicians would make the work go more than twice as fast. They arrived within a few hours, told us we needed a new pump and new wiring and gave us an estimate (between $2-3,000), and did the work. The men who did the work were pleasant, professional and cleaned up after themselves. They also told us we needed a new holding tank.

On the negative side: We were not given an itemized receipt when the work was done (although we had to pay on the spot), and when we did receive a bill we were charged two hours more than the workmen were here (at $100 per hour). We were told later that this undisclosed charge was for "travel time." We were told to bleed the water from the tank at regular intervals until it ran clear, and not to run the dishwasher or washing machine until the water was clear and the air was out of the lines. Three days later the water was still not running clean, the pipes were knocking. As the days passed, we became increasingly disgusted by the fact that our water was still dirty and full of air, so we called a different well service. The new service explained where the air was coming from, and also told us that Connecticut law requires that a new well cover be put in whenever a pump is replaced -- which hadn't been done. In the meantime, we did need a new tank, but we got a bigger, better maintenance-free tank for several hundred dollars less -- and it didn't require expensive annual maintenance.

They were very upfront with their charges which I liked, they recommended we get a new neutralizer and softener. We did some research online, then called back and had them replace the unit. They were very professional, there was no pressure to buy from them. They did a good job, they were prompt. They didn't leave a mess or anything.

Beware of inflated billing and incomplete work from G&H! They arrived within a few hours, told us we needed a new pump and new wiring and gave us an estimate (between $2-3,000). Fortunately, I have had enough experience to start a timer running whenever an hourly worker shows up at our door.... The techs worked efficiently (although they were working after dark and didn't have proper illumination, so they lost time until we realized the problem and ran work lights out to the well. They were also good about cleaning up after themselves. Best of all, they were done in 58 minutes exactly. One of the guys left right away, the other stuck around another 20 -30 minutes to write up the order, process the credit card charge, write an estimate for the new water tank they said we needed, work with his dispatcher to get the info on his next job, etc. When he gave me the bill, I asked for an itemization (thinking of the 58 minutes), but he said he didn't have it, one would be mailed to us later. He also said to bleed the water from the tank at regular intervals until it ran clear, and not to run the dishwasher or washing machine until it was clear. So I signed, paid and he left us with an un-itemized bill for $2600+. Three days later the water was still not running clean, the pipes were knocking and we finally received a copy of the credit card receipt (but no itemization). I called to get the itemization and was told it would be sent, but if I didn't "get one by the end of the week, call again"! I got a bit testy at that point, as I figured calling once should be enough. As the days passed, we became increasingly disgusted by the fact that our water was still dirty and full of air, so we called a different well service (Professional Pump Service, they're the best!), who explained where the air was coming from, and also told us that Connecticut law requires that a new well cover be put in whenever a pump is replaced -- which G&H hadn't done. When we finally got the itemized bill from G&H, it included TWO FULL HOURS for both technicians, plus we had to pay Professional Pump Service to put in the new well cover ($70). We disputed the hourly charge with G&H, and they said they bill 30 minutes per technician for travel time, even though they didn't tell us before hand (they said they "always" tell potential customers, but they didn't with us -- and at $100+/hour per person that's not the kind of thing you forget, is it?). We are in the process of disputing these charges with our credit card company. In addition to not telling the truth about giving us advance warning of the "travel time" charges, G&H is now lying and saying we were given a fully-itemized bill at the time of service.

We have used the services of Greco and Haines for many years to take care of the annual check on our well water. They are prompt, thorough, and reliable. They didn't find any problems with our well water, which is worth the cost for having peace of mind. I recommend their services.
