well the mess it was going to be to retrofit a central air system I just
could not resist the saving that were to be acquired by a geothermal
unit. I did my investigation called four different companies for
estimates. Out of four I narrowed it down to 2. Preferred Air and Bell
Heating and air conditioning. As far as price goes after all the
negotiations the two companies were only $100 apart. For a project that
could end up costing upwards of $70k that was amazing . But it gave me
satisfaction that the price I was getting perhaps not the bargain
basement but nevertheless was fair. The key difference between
the two companies was that I have a room above the garage with Bell
heating they were going to put another system which would be a heat
pump(which is not as efficient as geothermal) as a separate unit for
that room. Where as preferred air was going to incorporate it within
the geothermal system and put a separate zone. Between that and my
visit to a current project that Preferred air was involved with tipped
me toward Preferred Air for my geothermal system.
The work started on schedule one glitch occurred I ran out of oil 2 days before
the project was suppose to start. Now I had no heat or hot water for
2-3 weeks. But Preferred Air was very good as far as coming up with
solutions and they did. They quickly installed 2 water heaters that
were suppose to be part of the project and instructed me to get the
electrician to connect them so I would have hot water. The solution was
good except after they installed the two water tanks the next day. I
went to call the electrician he text me back that he was in the
bahamas. Well the day the electrician returned(he is a good friend of
mine) he came and connected the hot water heaters and the weather
started getting a little warmer so problem solved.
As I write the work is still in progress I will continue to update as the work progresses
From beginning to end Preferred Air was very professional. Sean who is their salesman/design engineer was very
detail oriented. Vinnie who is the project manager and his co workers are all very polite very neat and very detailed
in their tasks. They leave the work area as clean as can be. So far I am very happy with the project I will also try to come back
to angies list and update my saving from this project. For those of you contemplating geothermal remember mine was a retrofit
which is always more expensive if you are building a new house just go for geothermal you will not regret it.
