MIDDLESEX GLASS & GREENHOUSE

I phoned on 9/25/2013 and spoke with a woman who answered the telephone. I explained what I wanted glass for and requested to set up an appointment for someone to come to my home, measure and provide an estimate. She advised me to measure myself and trace a pattern, bring it in and they would make it for me. I asked why did I have to do that, in the past they always came to my home. I explained I had used their services at least 3-4 times over the years. Her reply was that she was just trying to save me money. I asked if she meant the cost was going to be more if they measured? She stated with the price of gas they cannot be running to everyone's home and then not get the jobs, it was a waste of their money. I explained that the length of one of the areas I wanted glass for was about 9 to 12' long, I really thought they needed to see it to give me some suggestions. She said the owner was the one that would come out and she needed to check with him to see when he could come out. She stated she would phone me back. I waited until the end of the next business day, no return call. I phoned back and reached the owner. I explained I had phoned before and was waiting a return call to set up an appointment. He stated he was a one man operation and was busy, he seemed not to know about my prior call. He asked what I wanted, I explained again. He began asking a lot of detailed questions, I stated that is why I needed him to look at the job, not discuss on phone. He literally hemmed and hawed, gave me the impression he was trying to talk me out of it. I finally asked when could he come out. He said not this week, maybe next Tuesday, he would see, maybe not. He then said if he did not call me back I should call him. He never asked my name ( I did identify myself at the beginning of the call but I doubt he wrote it down) nor for my phone number, even with caller ID you should verify a phone number..... I thought both contacts with this company were unprofessional. I can imagine what a nightmare it would be to deal with them if a problem arose with the job. They cannot even be nice when you are trying to hire them! Needless to say I hung up, called another glass company. They had someone out the next day, called with with an estimate within 2 hours and I hired them. If by some chance Middlesex Glass does return my call, I will advise them of their lack of professionalism. \
