I thought all was good - the contract specified that I purchase all of the large items - tile, grout, toilet, shower door, vanity, sink, and he would supply labor and incidentals. The first issue was he basically gutted the bathroom and did not pull permits (I was not aware of this.) Second, he insisted I purchase the supplies immediately so he could start. I went one night after work, exhausted. He did not pick up these supplies for almost a week. I could have made the purchase over the weekend without impacting his schedule. The third issue was marble for the doorway, shower entrance, and shower shelves. He insisted I use a tile shop that, with my work and kids sports schedules, was not open when I was available. He became very angry and frustrated, and purchased the marble himself which I reimbursed him for immediately. Thank goodness I liked the color because he installed this marble without consulting me about the color. The fourth issue was, he did not use the grout I purchased (which you had to mix yourself) but went and bought pre-mixed grout in a completely different color. Since this was the last thing to do, I left a check for him only to come home and find the problem. I contacted him immediately. Not only did he not offer to correct the problem, but he insists that he used the color "we discussed" so he is not liable. I am still trying to correct the color because it was a lousy grout job, with effervescence in places and caulk in others. He lacks attention to detail - he removed a doorstop when painting the bathroom door, but did not replace it so the doorknob hit the new glass shower door. Luckily I noticed before any damage was done and installed a doorstop myself. Finally - one of the problems in the bathroom was that the shower did not maintain water temp. This problem was not corrected, so I will still have to get a plumber out to fix it. In hindsight, it felt like he thought this would be a quick remodel in between jobs, and once he was on the next job he couldn't be bothered.
