This is just the most recent of many repair and maintenance projects, ranging from major to minor, from a
complete kitchen renovation and emergency reconstruction of a skylight window smashed during Storm Sandy to outside deck repairs and general maintenance on an as needed basis, performed consistently for over twenty five years.
We can count on immediate service and careful work from an experienced craftsman. We have commissioned projects costing I reckon over $50,000 without complaint. We cannot profess the same about several other contractors.
All material costs were attached and was on budget and on schedule. Actually had to wait and return w/o charge to complete after patio was finished.
Very kind and patient owner; honest and fair.
- 1. Repaired old brick surrounds of 3 basement windows
- 2. Gutter repair and better placement near basement wall- filled holes in that area with cement
- 3. Upper flat part of the outside access door to the basement (rotten-leaking) replaced with waterproof materials
- 4. Lower rows of shingles on garage falling apart-due to rotten wood supporting the whole structure Paul and son spent 2 days, replacing rotten wood, pouring cement etc.
6. He fixed by putting up special plywood (including strip for air) and therby eliminating scraping and painting.
7. Repaired parts of slate under the above slanted roof; also repaired parts of the slate patio in front of the house.
:LR - did not clean up daily - left the mess on the floor, causing the dirt to become ground into the carpet. ( he did use an assortment of tarps). He did sweep up some, but then shook out he tarps on my front lawn which I then had to clean up. I personally cleaned the room each night. Secondly, the sheet rock was not flat there are hills and valleys. He had a taper come in to fix it , but it did not work. I was then told I could sand it down myself. What was I paying him for? The trim work wasn't to bad - the only join is in the middle of the room and is very noticeable. The walls ended up with dirty hand prints and smudges forcing me the repaint the room .
Kitchen - simple job of installing a cabinet over the ref. Again messy. Cabinet was installed upside down and when he went to hook up the line to the ice maker, the mess on the floor caused him to step on and crack the supply line to the ice maker. He made it out that he didn't know how it happened (not his fault) and was told it wouldn't cost me much to put in a new line myself.
Thank goodness I had him do these small jobs first as I was going to use him to build a small addition.
Broadbent arrives on time, works throughout (even in the coldest temps!) and finishes the job on time. We added a few things (he kindly brought lattice for the sides of the stairs if I was so interested; I hadn't thought of that!) so we added on a few hours work/$ (he quoted me an addtl amount on the spot for the "add-ons") and delivered beautifully.
Note: be sure to clarify who removes the "scraps" which in my case included c80" planks of wood, rotten carriage etc. We worked out an additional $ for that service (was minimal).
Will def use Broadbent again in the spring.
Paul has a host of equipment in his truck to handle all type of outdoor carpentry. Great man to know.
Went very well. Paul reached out to arrange a time a few times while I was still getting my act together. He was very easy to communicate with over Angie's List Messaging and easy to reach by phone. He arranged a time quickly and showed up as expected. He was very knowledgeable about the carpentry items that were on my list. He completed everything quickly and I had to rack my brain to think of things to fill the time I had purchased! All in all I was very pleased with his professionalism and quality of work, especially considering the deal price. I would definitely call him for future handyman jobs.
