We purchased our home about 6 months ago, and at the suggestion of the home inspector, we hired a chimney sweep to clean the chimneys and install caps. That work was done in Oct., well before fire and winter season, so we didn't notice that one of the dampers was stuck open until recently. When contacted about the damper, the previous provider did not offer any explanation or to come out and resolve the issue.
I did not want to pay additional to the previous provider, so I searched Angie's List and saw St. Nicholas Chimney Service was more closely located, so reached out to Craig via email.
Here's the quick story:
- Craig's response was within hours
- His questions and our interactions were focused and got to the issue quickly
- He offered to take a look at the problem for free and provide counsel on what needed to be done
- He visited today, only two days after original contact
- Not only did he assess the problem, he wrestled with the jammed damper for 45 minutes, fixing it
- He also looked into my question about possibly needing another cap to cover the furnace flue, but told us we didn't need it and it would be an unnecessary expense.
He did all of this for no charge!
Craig has now created a customer for life. One who will gladly pay for any and all services we need in the future. It's tough for providers to have to fix someone else's errors, but he did it graciously and kindly didn't charge.
"After reviewing this posting , we checked our records for that time frame and did not find anyone with the members name. The address is from Virginia , and we are located in Connecticut. I will say , that if we did indeed do damage to someones property we would step up to the plate and take care of any situation immeadiatly ! As far as informing a home owner that potential problems may exist... it is our duty as professionals in this field to do so , we do not mislead , we do our best to educate the consumer , and at times what happens is , the consumer has already had two other opinions , so some people like to "shoot the messanger" , and become upset with any information that they do not want to hear. we are very aware , that this could happen, and work to prevent it from occuring , we treat our customers as we would like to be treated so we readily use National code structures ( N.F.P.A) for explaining and backing up any needed repairs. I really believe that this report by the Gamble is un founded and inaccurate , and they may have us confused with another company ,"
