He sent us a checklist of things to bring and/or prepare ahead of time to make things go faster (W-2 forms, 1099s, etc.). When we showed up, we only had to wait a few short minutes, even though it was the height of tax season and it was clear there was quite a bit of activity going on in the office.
He sat us down and went through a list of all of our income sources - salaries, investments, consulting and moonlighting income, etc. We then went through all possible deductions - taxes paid to other jurisdictions, mortgage interest, use of a home office, etc. As we spoke, he entered all of our information into the computer to save time and ensure accuracy.
Our prepared return showed up at our house within a few days to sign and return. Again, he prepared a checklist for us to make sure we reviewed and signed all the essential forms. I drove the signed returns back to the office that Saturday (and he was indeed working that day). However, my worries of the taxes being filed late were unwarranted, as he had anticipated things coming down to the wire and had already filed an extension.
I would describe Mr. De Palma as exceedingly meticulous and organized, and a true professional. I feel like he did a complete and thorough job and he was very personable and easygoing. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone. If you've never enlisted the help of a tax professional but find that your taxes are getting more complicated, I'd say he's the guy you want to talk to.
Although the bill was roughly twice what I had expected, I cheerfully and happily paid it. It was definitely fair. We had a really complicated tax situation and he he got us through on short notice. De Palma Tax Service is cheaper than marriage counseling!
