I called and Keith (who owns the company) and he called me right back! He made an appt. to look at the work. He showed up on time and cost to do work was fair. The room is large; kitchen/family room. Keith removed the popcorn and painted the rooms. He is very meticulous in his work and it came out beautiful! Everyone who came over commented about the exceptional quality of the work.
Over the next year and a half, I hired Keith to take all of the popcorn off of the ceilings in my home which is 3000 square feet.
He also painted a few of the rooms for me. Again, work was exceptional and I am so happy!
I need to also add that Keith is trustworthy. I was able to leave him alone in my home while I worked and everything went fine. For those of you who work, this is very important.
When finished with work, Keith left my home neat and clean.
I cannot say enough about the quality of the work the Keith did in my home.
He is the best!
Keith was extremely conscientious about his work. If there was something else we needed done, he was very quick to accommodate. He was on time, was quick to set up, worked all day, cleaned up and quietly left. We hadn't chosen a color for our garage doors and when I told him I wanted black, he suggested a shade and it was a hit! Several people have commented on the color, including our UPS driver!
I have also hired Keith to seal our garage floor sometime next month. He also does cabinet painting so when we decide to have ours refinished we're happy to give Keith our business again. Keith was very knowledgeable about his trade, was always very pleasant to deal with, punctual, and he did quality work. NOTE: If Keith doesn't answer his phone, it's because he's probably on a
ladder somewhere. Texting him was the best way for us to communicate with him. He always returned our calls/texts, was always reachable. We highly recommend Newcastle Painting!
It's simple for me. If Keith can fit us into his schedule, I would not even consider hiring anybody else. Simple as that. There are probably a bunch who are cheaper, and maybe some who are better, but if you want the sweet spot, then in my opinion you want Keith Rawcliffe, of Newcastle Painting.
And, by the way, Keith does not sell jobs. Yes, he quotes them, but when you get Newcastle Painting, you get Keith. That is what you should want, and if you have doubt you should ask him who will be on the crew; there may be others, too, but will Keith be there, too? I'm pretty sure he will be.
He did an outstanding job and we plan on having him back to do some interior painting for us.
When you find a contractor who does extraordinary work and is the soul of honesty and professionalism, you should use them again and again. That's been my experience with the superb Keith Rawcliffe and his company Newcastle Painting. I have never met a contractor who is so above-board and takes so much pride in his work. It was a sheer pleasure to work with him and I cannot say enough good things about him.
Let me paint a picture of Keith. He is tall, modest, unfailingly polite, and talks with an English accent. He called back right away when I asked him to come out for a bid. I was delighted at the fairness of his prices. It was obvious from the start that Keith was highly professional and he was meticulous about writing up all of the details in a written contract. Further, he is a man of his word. Keith always delivered everything he promised, with great quality, and there were never any disconcerting surprises.
Both the exterior and the interior jobs were mammoth in size, since my home is almost 4000 sq. feet. Each job took several months to complete (Keith often works alone or at most with one helper). The size of the jobs required promptness and persistence and Keith had an abundance of both.
On the exterior, Keith worked miracles. My wood shingles were badly discolored from years of neglect and I was wondering if I would even have to replace them. He spent days in the hot sun on a ladder washing each shingle with a bleach solution to remove the stains. It worked brilliantly and now the shingles look brand new. With the newly stained shingles, bright white trim, and brightly painted shutters, the house now looks like the charming New England cottage it was meant to be. Recently, a home inspector examined the condition of the shingles and pronounced them in excellent shape. I have Keith to thank for that. Now it's 18 months after the exterior job was finished and it still looks brand-new.
This spring, Keith came back to do the interior from top to bottom. Here, I came to appreciate the fine detail of his work. He has a extremely steady hand and all of the detail work on the molding and the trim was exact and precise. He has an eye for paint colors and helped me pick wondrous colors that make houseguests ooh and ahh. On top of that, Keith is the essence of neatness and left my home neat as a pin every day. To boot, he has all sorts of versatile skills. He replastered old walls, installed sheetrock in the attic, and replaced molding before painting. While all of the work was exquisite, I was especially pleased that he was able to transform a long neglected finished attic into an inviting and functional new floor.
As it happens, my brother is a housepainter in the Midwest and I would brief him on the progress of Keith's work. My brother was able to confirm that Keith did everything the right way, used quality materials, and never cut corners. According to my brother, Keith's paint job will last a long time.
So far, I've been talking about the quality of Keith's work. But also let me say what a pleasure he is to work with. He is extremely prompt and called me regularly to let me know exactly when to expect him. His gentle sense of humor was a delight. In addition, he always accommodated my new requests when I changed my mind midstream about what I wanted. He is also highly professional in complicated renovation situations. This spring Keith had to work alongside two other sets of contractors who were doing major renovations in my house. He interfaced with them extremely well and bent over backwards to coordinate his work with theirs. With multiple contractors, the renovation process could have been a traffic jam, but I am happy to say that Keith did everything he could to keep everything moving forward and on time.
Bottom line: Keith Rawcliffe and Newcastle Painting are absolutely superb and you would be making a mistake not to use them.

|I would highly recommend Newcastle Painting. I just called Keith to get an estimate on painting our living room and a small bathroom.
We will be hiring Keith again in the near future.
I wanted a dramatic and drastic color change from the single color that had been on the house for years. The house has light brown window casements trimmed with a deep brown vinyl. I wanted the house eaves, garage and other trim features to match the deep brown. Just by matching the trim to his color swatches, Keith selected a color that was a perfect match! I also struggled trying to decide what color to go with for the house. I knew what I didn't want, but couldn't visualize what the color on the small swatches would look on the house. Keith picked a color with my input and proceeded to get a small sample of the stain and applied it to the house. It was close but I wanted a deeper color in the same family. He recommended another color from a swatch and we decided to just go with it. I am so pleased with the color scheme outcome and all the credit goes to Keith for listening to what I was looking for and his experience with colors.
I liked that Keith was hands on working with his small 1-2 person crew. They were neat by covering windows, plants and the deck, and removing downspout gutters when they applied the stain. They also put their stuff neatly away at the end of each day. The wood on the house was very dry. They sprayed the first coat on and then took the time to swish the stain into the wood with a paint brush to ensure for better stain coverage, and then sprayed on the second coat. There were a few spots that I requested to be touched up and they took care of them without question.
I had received multiple quotes for the job and Keith's price was comparable with the others. I chose him since I liked how he answered my initial questions and his explanation of how he would do the job. I highly recommend this company based upon fair pricing, professionalism, cleanliness, quality, painting knowledge and just ease of dealing with Keith. I plan to use this company again for ceiling repair and interior house painting.
