It is beautiful and it is solid - no creaks, etc. Love, love it! The key is the conversation with Jason, who is experienced in all facets of remodeling. Talk to him so he knows your style and price range. It was a pleasant experience.

Jason and his crew went above and beyond to complete our project in a very short window. They were friendly, professional and their work of the highest quality. I wish a rating higher than A was available.

Thank you Jason St Hilaire, ([*** Link removed ***] for the patience, the cleanliness and a job beautifully done. Jason came to the rescue after the constructor we hired in the first place quit (soon after demolition and sheet-rocking) without a reason or a warning, stealing from us and not paying the electrician for the work already done, among other things. He's local and I'll give anybody who wants to know his name in a private message. We then got lucky, took the job, repaired/modified things done wrong, gave us some new ideas and finished the job for us. If you need an trustworthy, professional constructor for any remodeling or building, he is your guy. Thank you again Jason St Hilaire

Please see details as outlined above. Additionally, we have 22 foot ceilings in our great room which required erecting scaffolding in that area.  This was done with no damage to the room, and was put up and disassembled quickly.  The St. Hilaire team was always prompt, clean and efficient.   I would add that having restored the interior, it is our intention to continue to rely on St. Hilaire Restoration for roof work and other jobs as we see the need going forward.

The work was for a bathroom remodel on the second floor of a two-family home, including total demolition down to the wall studs, ceiling studs, and floor studs.  The demolition included removal of wall tile, floor tile, inches and inches of mortar, an old cast iron tub, plaster and lathing.  They installed a new subfloor, new sheetrock on the walls and ceiling, and cement board in the shower/tub area and on the portion of the walls that would be tiled.   They ensured that the room was level (floor and walls), and this was a feat in itself because the house is 80 years old and the bathroom had never been remodeled.  They installed a new tub, toilet, and vanity.  They handled all the plumbing, running new water supply lines and installing new shutoff valves, and installing sink and tub faucets.  They installed a porcelain tile floor, and porcelain tiles on the walls and the shower area.  The tile work was impressive, as the design included a border that required precision cutting and a special tile insert in the shower area.  The tile work involved one height on three of the walls, and then another height in and near the tub/shower area, with all of it having a special tile border, and it required precision to ensure that it was all level and that it matched perfectly with the glass shower door.  The detail in the tile work is evident, with corner tiles meeting perfectly and continuity running throughout the tile work on all the bathroom walls.  They also installed a glass shower/tub door, and they handled the electrical work too, including a new fan that they vented to our specifications, which required new duct work and a new exhaust location on the outside of the house.  The electrical work included new switches, a new outlet, and a new light.  They also installed grab bars, which, like the shower door, required drilling through porcelain tiles for proper anchorage into wall studs. They handled that without any issues - no cracked tiles!  They also painted and installed crown moulding, and they installed a new window.   In short, they did everything needed for the remodel.  They arrived as scheduled, and they were genuinely concerned with our satisfaction with their work.  We provided input and direction regularly, and while many contractors might have become annoyed, they never were.  They were agreeable regarding our input throughout the job and accommodated our requests. They continually asked for feedback on their work, and they conveyed a real concern for our satisfaction.  They showed a great amount of attention to detail in all aspects of the work.  So many contractors just want to get in and out, and it was refreshing to work with a contractor where it felt like a partnership and where our satisfaction was the primary goal.  This is a two-family home with another never-remodeled bathroom, and we are already planning on having them handle the bathroom remodel on the first floor in a few months.

The project went great.  I started out just wanting to replace the sliders but it quickly morphed into the other two items.  Jason had replaced 2 sky lights for me in the same room last spring and had told me then the roof needing replacing at some point.  However after the winter we had, it was obvious after weeks of leaks that it needed to be done sooner than later.  The ceiling had suffered from the leaks as well (and it was just plain ugly too), so I decided to get that replaced.  Overall it took about 3 weeks to get everything done.  They started on time, and had a few delays due to weather, but that's to be expected.
I had told Jason how much I wanted to spend on the sliders and he came in under budget, which was excellent, considering the size of 2 of the sliders.
The sun room looks fabulous.  The ceiling looks great, and he put bead board in the skylight well, which look awesome.  It's now a room that I will want to spend time in.
They did a great job cleaning up and put up with my barking dogs and a run in with a bear in the front yard!
Jason has also done two jobs for my father in Avon.  He replaced part of his roof that was leaking last spring, and I am happy to say there were absolutely no leaks over the winter.  He also renovated his laundry room, replacing the floor, walls and ceiling.  It looks 100% better than before, and my father is very happy with it.

He did not give me  a complete inspection report that was promised by offerring.  I did not watch him, so I do not know if he did a gutter cleanout either.  He was only trying to sell other services.  I am surprised that Angie's List allows this type of work!!
Response from St Hilaire Restoration, LLC
"First of all I showed up on time.as you were packing your car and leaving for vacation.second of all I had my ladders set up on your house to clean your gutters.this service did not need a written inspection report on the condition of your gutters.i also sent an email straight to you explaining the condition of your vent stack boot that you asked me to look at, along with a written estimate of the replacement of the gutter in the back that we talked about.i also informed you of the condition of your deck boards on your rear deck, suggesting to you , that you should retain them due to loss of paint.please do not give my company a bad name because you chose not to wait until the service was done, or because you chose not to read your email."

I first spoke with Jason on the phone, and then he came out to view the project and access the situation.   He returned again and gave me a price which I considered fair and reasonable.   I was given a "start up" date, and true to his word, work began as stated.  Jason told me that once my project was begun they would be here every day (minus weekends) until the job was done.   He would not be going from job to job.   There again he was true to his word.    The men arrived early every morning and worked approximately 8 hours each time.   They only broke for a quick lunch.    Jason and his crew helped me in the selection of materials and paint colors.  They did fine trim work  inside, around the new windows .   The same is true for outdoors where they used contrasting colors to trim the porch.
I now have a lovely looking home!   The best part was that they did a terrific job of cleaning up after they were done.   The workers were pleasant, and most of all i felt that they could be trusted.   All in all it was a job well done!

The grouting went well except for the clean-up.  The caulking did not go well at all.  He ran out of caulk and had to run to Home Depot which used up one of the 3 hours contacted for.  I had to completely re-do the caulk job since it was smeared and not uniform.  Came out much better when I did it.

The  leak sourcing and repair was outstanding.  The leak was repaired,  the leak outside at the vent was sealed and the ceiling was fixed.  Was able to almost exactly match the popcorn ceiling area that was repaired which is very hard to do. This work was done by the owner and this part of the job would get an "A" rating.  I was not as pleased with the caulking and grout work and give this work a "B" rating for the following reasons:  This work was done by an assistant who was learning to use the caulking tools. I don't have a problem with someone learning a task on my home repairs, but I think there should have been more oversite of his work by the owner.  I as the homeowner was checking the work and pointing out things that needed to be redone.  The owner had to re-do several areas himself. There are still two small areas that were not done very well (one very visible). And the caulking was a bit sloppy.  I know caulk squishes onto the counter tops and wall above the backsplash when it's being applied, but I had to do alot of clean-up to get it off the counter tops and walls once the contractors  left.  One last comment: (also speaks to the "B" rating)  on the day of the work, the contractors arrived right on the scheduled time (8 a.m.)  but had to leave for two hours. Because the work wasn't started until 10 a.m., this caused the contractors to be at the house two more hours than originally planned. I was told at first that they left because they had to get the caulk and had to go to two Home Depots to get the right color and then found out later that they forgot to bring a ladder and had to backtrack about 20 miles (each way) to get it in addition to the caulk. I get forgetting a ladder. But when the job was quoted on-site, the owner and I discussed the caulk colors and I was surprised that he didn't arrive with those materials in hand. While I would use this contractor again, I would set some expectations out upfront, especially concerning any assistant who is apprentice mode.

It went well. The price was a little high for what the guy did but he did show up on time and provided his service. It was not quite what I was looking for and I think that he was in a hurry to go pick up his new truck. He did come at the time that he was supposed to be coming because he tried to push it out a few months and I was not interested in a few months and then he decided to come that weekend. Overall, he seemed like a trustworthy guy that I did not mind having in my house but he probably did not have a good deal for the value of what he did. It was not that bad but just to have someone come and caulk around the base of my shower was not really worth whatever the deal was that I bought. I do not remember if it was $199 or if it was just $99 but for a three-second fix, I did not feel like it was worth it. I was actually looking for somebody to kind of take all the grout out in the base of the shower and I almost felt like he had other places to be that day. I like people that I do not mind having in my house because that could have been somebody that I did not want to open the door for so overall, he was a nice guy but his price was a little steep for the actual service that was provided. I would probably not use him again in the future.
