Curries Plumbing Heating & Cooling Inc

About us

In January of 1989 Paul Currie Sr. and Marguerite Currie started Currie’s Plumbing, Heating & Cooling Inc. to offer plumbing, heating & cooling services to the community of Southeastern, Connecticut. Starting the business from the ground up, Maggie operated the office while raising two children. Paul was completing service calls from one happy customer to the next. It did not take long for the company to grow their customer base, as their main form of advertisement became word of mouth.

Very, very good. They were very professional. They worked well with the insurance company and got everything covered by them. They had no problem waiting for the insurance checks, they went ahead and started the work first no problem.

Currie's tech showed up on time and the maintenance on both the heating and the oil fired hot water was done in a timely matter. That was a few months ago and I haven't had any issues.

Naturally, my furnace died during the recent cold spell. Unfortunately, it really wasn't an old unit, but I sensed that replacement might be the most viable option for me, so instead of calling the company that installed the unit for possible repair, I called Curries. Curries responded the same day. The technician attempted to locate the necessary parts and could only locate them from the manufacturer (not a local supply house). When I asked about replacement versus repair, the technician talked through the differences with me and I decided to go with replacement. I was set up with a temporary system for hot water (no frozen pipes!) and space heaters to get me through the weekend until the furnace could be installed on Monday. I wish I had before and after pictures to show the quality installation completed by Curries compared to the system being replaced. Their pricing was very reasonable and the owner applied a rebate that was currently available. I was treated wonderfully by the Curries team and regret not using them from the start.

Company was familiar with the issue I was having, suggested the appropriate repair, completed it in a timely manner, and charged a fair price! Well done Curries!

It is a family ran business. The technicians seem very capable. While I thought their price was very expensive, they did what they said they were going to do. They also gave me a refund for part of the service, since they got a credit from the manufacture. They are very honest.

We had scheduled work for replacing bathtub drain pipe and rebuild bathtub faucet. Paul Jr came on time as scheduled. He quickly and smoothly fixed the issue we had with our bathtub. Knowing ahead what he would be doing he brought parts he thought he would need. and replaced the old bathtub drain pipe. Not an easy thing to do, and he put in a brand new unit. He rebuilt the faucet and added an extra part that was missing on our tub's inlet, for cosmetics, which made it look a lot nicer. Thanks.
In addition we questioned him on filtering our water supply, we brought it up. To improve our water quality and protect our equipment. He explained the solutions available, showing his vast knowledge and enjoyment of his work, and took a water sample to design a filter system that would be right for our home (water supply). We are looking forward to a new water filtration system.

We called to schedule to have work done, they scheduled right away. Day of scheduled work the technician called ahead before he arrived to let us know he was coming.  He arrived on time, as scheduled. Proceded to do the Home Central Air Conditioning repair. Found problem was bad thermostat transformer. Went back to shop to get part needed. Came right back fixed unit. Then did Home Central Air Conditioning service work. completed work in reasonable time. Then looked at other work needed and scheduled to come back next day and do additional work. (replace/rebuild bathroom tub faucet).

My toilet was hanging up and running.  I called and they responded within two days.  Very good response time for a routine job.  When they arrive Paul Jr. had to first take a call from home then he went to work.  Spent about 1 hr and 45 minutes doing the work.  The work was done very professional and was excellent.  The problem arose when he presented me with the bill for the service.  I know plumbers are expensive but the bill was $625.00.  I was so shocked that I just wrote a check for the amount and said thanks.  After talking with my wife we began to research what this job cost or should have cost.  I looked up the parts on the internet and they were about $30 per toilet.  I called three other large plumbing contractors to see what it would cost and to the man they said somewhere between $150 and $200.  I call Mr. Currier on Monday and told him I thought he was a little high and he explained that they have a set charge for what they do and the charge for one toilet was $295.  I know this is a way to bill but because of that and no advance warning about the cost I will never call or recommend Currie again.  His work is excellent but for a senior citizen on a fixed income he is way to over priced.  In his behalf he did send me a check for $250 as partial refund.  I will still not recommend or use his company again.

After I made an appointment with the company, we had to reschedule due to treacherous weather.  We rescheduled and because the job before mine was taking longer than anticipated, I was called prior to his scheduled appointment with me.  He then called again when he was near.  When the gentleman arrived, he was polite and looked professional.  I showed him to the basement where he immediately went to work.  I asked if I could get him anything to which he replied that he was all set. Not only had he brought his own cooler with him, but a vacuum as well.
I had a list of concerns, so it did take a while to troubleshoot.  He found that the furnace needed a few parts.  He showed me where and what needed to be replaced and explained the reason this needed to be done.  He said that the parts should be in within the week.  We scheduled a tentative appointment.  The following week same gentleman arrived promptly and went to work on the job.  I thought I was going to have to clean up after him when he left even though he had brought a vacuum. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the area in which he worked looked better than it did before I called!
I would not hesitate to use this company again or recommend them to anyone.  Fantastic!

I called Curries after my furnace shut off and wouldn't come back on.  They were the third place I called, but the first one without a message machine.  A real person answered and said someone could be out in a couple hours.  Since it was mid-30s outside and we were freezing, I was pretty grateful for that.
The estimate said noon to 2; the worker arrived a little after 2 pm so I was a bit worried.  I would have liked it if they called to give me an updated time.  However, he was very nice and polite, and in short order informed me that it was just a shut off valve from the water being too low.  Since I knew next to nothing about the furnace, he gave me good instructions on how to check it and maintain it.  He also told me he wasn't charging me anything since he didn't do any work.  I say that he did; I would have gladly paid him a basic fee for coming out, honestly, because it was extremely helpful.  I was so worried that my furnace was broken!  I'll be scheduling a cleaning with them very soon.
