Hess went over budget for the job (despite us dropping the roofing budged by $15k)
During construction, several of the subcontractors changed. Hess said they were no good so he got others. However, I had 3 subcontractors come to me in person stating they had not been paid my Hess (despite our having paid Hess for their services).
He had every excuse in the book for why the job could not be completed in a timely manner.
Upon completion of the job, I requested signed lien releases from all subcontractors, which he supplied. However, one subcontractor just came back to me saying he hadn't been paid for work completed in May (6 months ago). I showed him the lien release and he had not signed it - Hess had forged it.
We had a terrible, stressful time working with John Hess. Based on our experiences, I do not trust John Hess. He has lied to us on numerous occasions. I would not advise anyone to hire him.
