I hope we don't have to use them again until we buy our next home (they also do pest inspections for homebuyers), but I wouldn't even consider calling anyone else if we do.
I general spend way too much time researching companies and agonizing over whom to call. Save yourself a bunch of time and don't bother reading any other Angie's List reviews; just hire these guys!
Charlie and another worker arrived about an hour late for the appointment but Charlie called twice that morning to let me know that they were delayed at another job. That's understandable and I appreciated his respect for my time.
When they arrived, Charlie spent time inspecting my house and grounds. He spent time educating me about termites, the chemicals he commonly used, his plan, etc. I had done a lot of research beforehand and he answered my questions and concerns well.
He also respected my concern for the potential impact of the chemicals on the environment. Instead of injecting the pesticide into the ground around the entire perimeter of my house as another company recommended, he used a combination of pesticide in the high risk areas and monitoring devices. They had to drill holes in the cement sub flooring of one of my rooms to inject the chemical. (Thankfully, I had just ripped up the old carpet and hadn't replaced the flooring yet.) When they were done, they filled the holes and cleaned up and I could barely tell where the holes were.
They placed the monitoring devices around the perimeter of the house in areas where they'd be effective but not eyesores. And when they had to trim some bushes to gain access to the ground for the monitoring devices, Charlie asked permission first and then trimmed with little impact to the appearance of the shrubs.
The monitoring devices need to be checked periodically and his company offers this service for a fee. But he also offers that customers save money and do it themselves. He demonstrated how to check them and since it's very easy, I chose to check them myself. If termites are found within the first year after treatment, he will bait the devices at no charge.
He also sprayed some exposed wood in my garage and steps with borate spray as an added safeguard.
If it's possible that dealing with termites can be a positive experience at all, it was with Quest Pest.
