I received a phone call from Tiffany in less than 5 minutes. I explained what we needed done and that it needed to be completed in less than a week. I was given a price, which was less than what the other contractor had quoted, and that they could be there in 2 days. I was told they would be there first thing in the morning and that they would be done by lunch time.
As promised, Tiffany and Robert arrived at 8 AM, came in and assessed the room, asked some pertinent questions, provided some excellent advise and then got to work. They worked as a team, they were professional, respectful, cleaned up as they went and did an outstanding job. They finished up around noon, right on schedule.
We had planned on finishing the floor ourselves so they provided some excellent advise on the sanding and finishing process.
We had our event and the room looked spectacular, we got a lot of compliments on the floor.
I highly recommend Z-Best Wood Flooring. Tiffany and Robert did an excellent job, they were very professional and really helped us out on short notice when the other contractor couldn't do the job.
They are a unique couple, and if you're expecting them to pull up in a and quot;regulationand quot; contractor's pick up truck--think again. My neighbors were thoroughly entertained by the couple driving a late-model Hummer, who drove into the condominium parking lot with their trailer of equipment hitched behind it. They also brought sound equipment, which intrigued the neighbors, who thought I might be throwing a party instead of having new floors installed, but, hey, Z-Best likes to rock while they roll. I had no problem with it.
Tiffany, who is extremely organized and keeps things running on schedule, looks like she just stepped out of the pages of Vogue magazine, and as a former fashion editor I took that as an auspicious sign she would make sure my home looked fabulous when the project was completed.
The thing that struck me most about Robert and Tiffany is that they are problem solvers. They brought me solutions, calmly, when other prospective flooring contractors delivered histrionics and dire warnings. For example, two contractors I interviewed before calling Z-Best told me that I needed a and quot;glue downand quot; product because of my stair steps. They claimed a click-lock floating floor system would be impossible to install because of the stair steps.
Not true. Robert and Tiffany weren't the least bit daunted, and they offered me a couple of ideas for tackling the stairs. Now, the stairs alone were around $1,000, so it was not an inexpensive proposition. Still, they look great and I'm very happy with them. The strategy we adopted was to install wood risers (Tiffany's brother did that job, and he was awesome at it), and Tiffany stained the treads to match, almost exactly, the rest of the flooring. It's definitely an art to be able to mix the stain to match the rest of the floor so perfectly. I'm amazed it turned out so well.
These people are nothing short of perfectionists. They really and truly are.
Robert said that, overall, the job of installing the flooring in my condo unit wasn't as difficult as it was intricate. But that intricacy, he claims, is the type of challenge he thrives on. The condo is an older, unique space with lots of weird twists and turns--so he certainly had a lot of happy challenges.
Z-Best definitely had their work cut out for them with this job, but the end result is that it is gorgeous, and I'll be hiring them to do the upstairs in 2012. The owners of this company are extremely organized and buttoned-up--and their work is, well, Z-Best!
