Curt Colligan of Shell Homes, Woodland Park talks a good line but has a difficult time telling the truth. It is my fault that I fell for the good-ole-boy sales pitch and signed a contract that is completely one sided and provides very little recourse for the client, if things go bad. That being said, the wording is deliberately vague and you would be well advised to make sure you get any details in writing and attach firm DEADLINES, otherwise you may be in for the same sort of treatment I experienced. When confronted with questions on why things were not being finished on time, I was met with excuse after excuse and promises that they were doing all they could to get my project back on track. In reality, my house sat for weeks at a time without ANYTHING being done on it all. Instead of taking 4 months to complete, it took 1 year! I had to badger them to even get it finished then and when the final bill came, it was more than 20k over budget. I would never work with them again.

I hired Shell Homes to assemble a SIPs manufactured home. I, stupidly,
signed his contract that provided no protection for me, nor did it cover
half of what we discussed. I have no legal recourse, and am not happy
with the way things worked. The original estimate for time was 6 weeks (verbal discussion)
the project took 6 MONTHS. The papers I signed said they would provide
labor to assemble the house, and we discussed that they would be able to
order material as needed. I asked for an estimate on that and was told
he would have to get a takeoff. I explained I needed that number before I
would be OK with that. They came back with a number of ~$10,000. At the end,
we were more than DOUBLE that. The whole experience was full of excuses,
lies, misunderstandings, and worst of all my lack of experience in
dealing with this situation. Not all issues were the fault of Shell homes, there were communication problems with the engineer and the SIPS providers. Overall the home was assembled by one subcontractor, not a
crew. He worked hard, but there was no way that one person could
complete the job in the time promised by Shell Homes. That guy (a framer by trade) was assigned by shell homes to handle everything, ordering material, estimating (where the original "take offs" were incorrectly done, if done at all), and trying to decipher the various number, and lack there of, on plans. I stopped the project part way
through because I was so upset with the process, the lack of communication, and the attitude. I met with Shell homes
again, and they promised to make amends for some issues, and other
compensations. We decided that there was not much left in the job, and
walked through the remaining phases. We came to an agreement of ONE more
month to finish the project. TWO months later we are finally done.
My overall experience is that they do quality work, but are vague in promises, horrible at timelines, and don't operate in the manner I would expect. Be VERY cautious on what you sign, and get all expectations in VERY CLEAR WRITING.

We have not had a final exception that's do to the county though. I did have small issues I would give them seven of a ten.I would give them a B grade overall. I would use this company in the future.
